So, once again, I pulled from that large stack of unfinished projects and got started. First, I finished off a little Civil War reproduction quilt of tiny triangles.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvviErx8fwxMZI8v2j9YmfmZrfojWLfnpojO4RoDFGUwltccfRaOC6QigVPlehA59kbXPXxw3eKJ1d7FjMnxZ0rcAXIh0YWcexS6bjR81zD25J0uqFUEb9aDza9UZiSw_xniF1bkYP_crY/s1600/000+mini+quilt+triangles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1545" data-original-width="1600" height="309" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvviErx8fwxMZI8v2j9YmfmZrfojWLfnpojO4RoDFGUwltccfRaOC6QigVPlehA59kbXPXxw3eKJ1d7FjMnxZ0rcAXIh0YWcexS6bjR81zD25J0uqFUEb9aDza9UZiSw_xniF1bkYP_crY/s320/000+mini+quilt+triangles.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This one gets to be a mug rug on the table by the cozy chair in my office. I wasn't really happy with how the quilting came out (I used paper that distorted the stitches), but decided I wasn't <i>un</i>happy enough to redo it. Done is done!<br />
<br />
The next one is a copy of a swap quilt from years ago. I had liked it enough at the time that I cut out a second set of patches and set them aside for myself. The border fabric makes me think of rainy fall days and wet leaves on a wet sidewalk. I found myself listening to the Carpenters's "Rainy Days and Mondays" as I sewed. So nostalgic!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-HDXc9uWjzbrpOFH32Hui1c3WTFE8S3t14SZ4fwLw2ooY1orJE3Owr-szswmmw7-dltfsGN-HGUSvE5I20WJScw1MjP1muUOksbA7POk5cwqHi-5AjPt-LGooByg6zi2xeERG5dZ-54Oo/s1600/000+mini+quilt+rainy+days.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1556" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-HDXc9uWjzbrpOFH32Hui1c3WTFE8S3t14SZ4fwLw2ooY1orJE3Owr-szswmmw7-dltfsGN-HGUSvE5I20WJScw1MjP1muUOksbA7POk5cwqHi-5AjPt-LGooByg6zi2xeERG5dZ-54Oo/s320/000+mini+quilt+rainy+days.jpg" width="311" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The next one is <i>another</i> swap quilt copy. The theme for that swap was books and my partner was a big Wizard of Oz fan. After I printed off a sheet of the book covers for her mini, I printed off another one for myself. And speaking of nostalgia, this takes me back to childhood -- way back, just past the dark ages, when there was no cable tv, no streaming, no videos, just whatever played on ABC, CBS, or NBC. Every year it seemed, one of them broadcast the Wizard of Oz. I always loved it. And then there was the magical night when I was at a sleepover at my best friend's house and discovered that there were Oz <i>books</i>. In fact, there was a whole set of them! Once she fell asleep, I spent the rest of the night, enchanted, devouring one book after another. Here's to joyful wonder.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Ruby slippers and all. Because . . . of course.<br />
<br />
Moving on, I finally finished the quilting and binding for the reproduction X-block quilt. I love the softness of this one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8z6FqCsJtMDd4wKyEDm3-Yr34wnXXd1GsWn191ksdCEkHwSEB8Ojiuq9lQZcHeoEnYm44S42st5jNpP7t8WQHMcGGxSonsWVEsH_3a-5Hj2BroNaS5QACyCY3sYY3EIVFnaayEQemZDPS/s1600/000+mini+quilt+x+blocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1336" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8z6FqCsJtMDd4wKyEDm3-Yr34wnXXd1GsWn191ksdCEkHwSEB8Ojiuq9lQZcHeoEnYm44S42st5jNpP7t8WQHMcGGxSonsWVEsH_3a-5Hj2BroNaS5QACyCY3sYY3EIVFnaayEQemZDPS/s320/000+mini+quilt+x+blocks.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>

<br />
And then, one last small project <i>finally</i> finished -- the tote bag using kaleidoscope blocks for pockets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-y-Bku3r7m7bWpnnL2bJmWRTCp3ZpRhmRT5p-egFmFxJUqSwn_H0Tu2-HJGAMspOwjMuO8l1BGTihQcXoJDww1W84MW9w67YvDd8PrH3fofQ9BvabWjWKCHqWAVZzr4cqHTYGD_PniHkF/s1600/000+tote+bag+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1579" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-y-Bku3r7m7bWpnnL2bJmWRTCp3ZpRhmRT5p-egFmFxJUqSwn_H0Tu2-HJGAMspOwjMuO8l1BGTihQcXoJDww1W84MW9w67YvDd8PrH3fofQ9BvabWjWKCHqWAVZzr4cqHTYGD_PniHkF/s320/000+tote+bag+front.jpg" width="315" /></a></div>
<br />
Because you can never have too many tote bags. At least not in my world. (A teacher's life means there is always plenty to tote about!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaECFhAvMStec8u7ZvsVQ1RoLvRnpobNotOmgskHmmLVa9Cud7dY-9VZWD_8W2rCWIxzjFUGM4nFT9E4inPsrhLD4F3f58Nrf5fguNQQADS4ja89w6de4EIFJVcHEAQ98GBvrnBtByEDUK/s1600/000+totes+bag+front+pocket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1367" data-original-width="1600" height="273" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaECFhAvMStec8u7ZvsVQ1RoLvRnpobNotOmgskHmmLVa9Cud7dY-9VZWD_8W2rCWIxzjFUGM4nFT9E4inPsrhLD4F3f58Nrf5fguNQQADS4ja89w6de4EIFJVcHEAQ98GBvrnBtByEDUK/s320/000+totes+bag+front+pocket.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9nZyUr-IJxUHcHxH2XvswRZHu7WKc_F9Tu0zls5VcdrK-aOjzCbu8kV5FVkoqwZOGuadhDLc6QedU9ENjRgYYFdA8rBp6j0PEtjZnyc2d5i5X6Vuxsu12E9LlcDK9caFHnhBeCFiGsMOb/s1600/000+tote+bag+back+pocket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1585" data-original-width="1600" height="316" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9nZyUr-IJxUHcHxH2XvswRZHu7WKc_F9Tu0zls5VcdrK-aOjzCbu8kV5FVkoqwZOGuadhDLc6QedU9ENjRgYYFdA8rBp6j0PEtjZnyc2d5i5X6Vuxsu12E9LlcDK9caFHnhBeCFiGsMOb/s320/000+tote+bag+back+pocket.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And having had my fun playing with little things for a week, I'm ready now to get back to that larger medallion quilt. Onward, onward.<br />
<br />
And hey, little things means I've moved five (count them . . . <i>five</i>!) projects from undone to done.<br />
<br />

This one goes back to 1998, I think. Whew.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPE66dEutCp5QcqyyfnJNnygyb3Y_AKhjGdrW6RQ6ZO1kL7tVZpJVZySufl44AzI2mqY844NxELrlFApE1-pmtk5q5nmMv1YZY915v_CvNMAcOVWnBvosHyrc4no2NiFLimTMmrQDtfgJ-/s1600/000+medallion+in+process.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1541" data-original-width="1600" height="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPE66dEutCp5QcqyyfnJNnygyb3Y_AKhjGdrW6RQ6ZO1kL7tVZpJVZySufl44AzI2mqY844NxELrlFApE1-pmtk5q5nmMv1YZY915v_CvNMAcOVWnBvosHyrc4no2NiFLimTMmrQDtfgJ-/s320/000+medallion+in+process.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I am really close on this. I have most of the piecing for the next borders done. First, the squares in a square you can see here, and then another border of triangles. I just need to figure out the spacer border strips.<br />
<br />
I also finished up the round robin baby quilt I had got back to earlier in the spring.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOa6vnO_8CeLmAe4qoLnFQ9g4iWduFYxLEPpf3gSjbSGoKYd6BC_f1xsWbx26dqAI5lRcZcD8IxX1j21imHOK8mAPtUCVgSTxio9i_TxJy-r0h4DNuVvvvhM4jwlv2swEGWzVmpn3LvRch/s1600/round+robin+baby+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1069" data-original-width="1600" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOa6vnO_8CeLmAe4qoLnFQ9g4iWduFYxLEPpf3gSjbSGoKYd6BC_f1xsWbx26dqAI5lRcZcD8IxX1j21imHOK8mAPtUCVgSTxio9i_TxJy-r0h4DNuVvvvhM4jwlv2swEGWzVmpn3LvRch/s320/round+robin+baby+quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
That's headed towards a baby who just arrived a few weeks ago. Isn't that a better place for it than sitting half-done in my closet? (Why, yes, Terrie. Yes, it is. Who knew?)<br />
<br />
And, let's hear it for eye surgery. I can once again see well enough to hand quilt! So I'm finishing up this little mini. All I have to do is a line of quilting along the outside edge of the painter's tape. Then, binding. We'll see what tomorrow brings.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho5RZbgZ8POdCdvB-A0W_pI9Zbl-xN3sJ2lZVcaq-4XVNNNJksgoGQttkNhoAX_byn0POMwdZzMpN-p3d_ZBCaGHkWOhUqqPWNsXGgnCZLKb4kDXmRhKl0pGGCF_CzBfNmFBzcWYYNYCPc/s1600/000+mini+quilting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1390" data-original-width="1600" height="277" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho5RZbgZ8POdCdvB-A0W_pI9Zbl-xN3sJ2lZVcaq-4XVNNNJksgoGQttkNhoAX_byn0POMwdZzMpN-p3d_ZBCaGHkWOhUqqPWNsXGgnCZLKb4kDXmRhKl0pGGCF_CzBfNmFBzcWYYNYCPc/s320/000+mini+quilting.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Next I'm pulling out an old hand quilting project that goes back even further than that 98 medallion!<br />
<br />
I am ALL about finishing projects at the moment. I have to admit, I feel burdened by the (embarrassingly large) stack of finished but unquilted, nearly finished, half-finished, and the scattered, hopeful "we've only just begun(s)." Sometimes I see new projects that would be fun to start but then I think about all that's waiting and I flat out wilt.<br />
<br />
So, now's the time. Progress may be slow but at least it is progress. I'll also say, though, that it's important to me that I enjoy doing this. I would hate it if working on these older projects just felt like a chore. Fortunately, I'm really enjoying working on them again. And it <i>is</i> a thrill to see them cross the finish line.<br />
<br />
Well, some of them are just getting <i>closer</i> to the finish line. I'll take it.Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-8374431266302671802017-07-04T14:14:00.000-06:002017-07-04T14:14:33.969-06:00Red, White, and BlueTo all those celebrating, happy 4th of July! <br />
<br />
What a good day for a flag project, right? I'm still pulling out old projects to work on. This morning I finally created a setting for a little needle-punch house and flag I had done up years ago.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIgy8i1-jYBV_6IjCNcx0TA15xnQOftSAuzpP8mG2U9Baeh_ai9nvAWa_8lH3vyRUU5Haj8IrFcLfMmJS-kX-r__mBqJwfDxgzS3Hk5B65bh7pguXpUiMBnIMm25RP601huVwexKY5wyLn/s1600/needle+punch+flag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1226" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIgy8i1-jYBV_6IjCNcx0TA15xnQOftSAuzpP8mG2U9Baeh_ai9nvAWa_8lH3vyRUU5Haj8IrFcLfMmJS-kX-r__mBqJwfDxgzS3Hk5B65bh7pguXpUiMBnIMm25RP601huVwexKY5wyLn/s320/needle+punch+flag.jpg" width="245" /></a></div>
<br />
That's supposed to be a star in the blue corner of the flag. Of course. My own true love asked why the flag has a fish on it. Okay, then. It's just part of that homemade charm we all love (and some of us achieve more naturally than others).<br />
<br />
The binding is a half inch instead of a quarter because of a mistake I made, but sometimes mistakes are for the best. I think the wider binding is a better choice for this one. Let's hear it for the oops that make things better rather than worse!<br />
<br />
This last week I finished the blocks for the star quilt and assembled the blocks into rows. I'm waiting to put the rows together though. I signed up for a Craftsy class on machine quilting in sections and I'm considering it for this project. (I've quilted in sections before but I definitely need to refine my technique). In any case, glad to be done with four-inch stars!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsABIENmNKanWpthHQktjUHUaNNf-KaKtQ57ZIxjDulacSZd7lg-a-_aX6hETBwPVfLQdL086f6jDeFjS3aEEXgu7LAHoTTXMjMCzqq7hN0kDnfbLomW_7BWOf_85C0uqznYNoXiKRyM6K/s1600/stars+in+process.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1537" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsABIENmNKanWpthHQktjUHUaNNf-KaKtQ57ZIxjDulacSZd7lg-a-_aX6hETBwPVfLQdL086f6jDeFjS3aEEXgu7LAHoTTXMjMCzqq7hN0kDnfbLomW_7BWOf_85C0uqznYNoXiKRyM6K/s320/stars+in+process.jpg" width="307" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I really like the design on this quilt. Ultimately, I'll add a narrowish red border and a wider blue border. Decisions for another day. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to the rest of our Independence Day, remembering the celebrations of my childhood. We'd go to my aunt's where we'd eat lots of good food, pick cherries right off the tree, play ping-pong, throw horse-shoes, and climb trees. Lovely memories. </div>

See Clearly Now</h2>
<div>
At least, that's the plan. I'm in-between cataract surgeries. Things are looking pretty wonky with one eye recovering from the surgery and my other eye its out of focus self. I'm feeling particularly grateful to the library for downloadable audio books! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I had my own true love searching through the romance category for me. Poor guy. The titles nearly did him in. I'm late on the audio book train. I've always preferred just to read, but so far I've been through a Debbie Macomber novella and novel and I'm just about halfway through a Eileen Goudge novel. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I set up some lightweight work for the sewing room. Lord knows what I'll think of my seams once I get decent eyesight again, but finished and imperfect is better than unfinished perfect in mind only, right? </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I pulled out a project I started years ago. Now it's up on my newly created design wall. (I have a design wall! I have a design wall! After all these years, I have a design wall! -- Can you tell I'm thrilled?)</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I designed this years ago in EQ. Now I'm remembering why I shoved it in the closet partway done all those years ago. That's a lot of 4" stars!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX5KlPqXNRYRANi0JtoAcL2yS9bZ7pJ5VGESlQFy1yPJElOwWSXJuS5cri1G-n3t76X2XRuJGHKtWztzgSme4oIZhmsjbDtxf3NmTyJcBqmjesD44z3CExl7muoZI6qNMcV8bF18euokrO/s1600/stars+closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1529" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX5KlPqXNRYRANi0JtoAcL2yS9bZ7pJ5VGESlQFy1yPJElOwWSXJuS5cri1G-n3t76X2XRuJGHKtWztzgSme4oIZhmsjbDtxf3NmTyJcBqmjesD44z3CExl7muoZI6qNMcV8bF18euokrO/s320/stars+closeup.jpg" width="305" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Still, coming onto the fourth, this seemed like a good project to work on. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Since I designed it in EQ, it was possible to come up with some really different looking versions. Here's the red, white, and blue version I'm working on: </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxJIvk6fKPg-p9Iu_LnERHxFZdvMtq2mOtexGFHF76XojhyjeZ45p8qMYZCm2yL5rWAnvQwUHjvQAItRhXzYq8lrMy5eMiInO2NlZiZqfHorQVaTk7j3_kd2_ufYkM4MNeVXcKEzugqm4d/s1600/Stars+in+EQ+red+white+and+blue.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxJIvk6fKPg-p9Iu_LnERHxFZdvMtq2mOtexGFHF76XojhyjeZ45p8qMYZCm2yL5rWAnvQwUHjvQAItRhXzYq8lrMy5eMiInO2NlZiZqfHorQVaTk7j3_kd2_ufYkM4MNeVXcKEzugqm4d/s320/Stars+in+EQ+red+white+and+blue.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And here it is in reproduction pink and brown: </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx44_7m5kRZV33VSWp-D6gNiHhBY6FC8S0smVUFWMU4v6rv01VXG978j2ZCR_xON1pNbEd3_hWXH-AJoRSiVmHHCo7h8vXivvmt5tNq5O2wW2cTtA7pKBws3U8XOcYpQfP8QLyPzMKNpIE/s1600/Stars+in+pink+and+brown.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx44_7m5kRZV33VSWp-D6gNiHhBY6FC8S0smVUFWMU4v6rv01VXG978j2ZCR_xON1pNbEd3_hWXH-AJoRSiVmHHCo7h8vXivvmt5tNq5O2wW2cTtA7pKBws3U8XOcYpQfP8QLyPzMKNpIE/s320/Stars+in+pink+and+brown.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It never ceases to amaze me what color and fabric choice does to a design. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And so, this is it for me. I'm done squinting at the screen. Time to listen to a book on tape for a bit. I'm enjoying that more than I expected. I read relatively fast, so having the experience where every word gets its due is new for me. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected I would. Old dog, new tricks.</div>

</div>
This week I was distracted by one of my favorite AccuQuilt GO! projects -- circle coasters.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5w2bzaQZ8UWgfPC0EvWO6AEW-4BipmHSsRZc__66K6Xx3JTho6NB4kiRHmQDKEPfG3F204iBg9ztIEfKPZqdfi7cQwFxy9n5Z9_IEtwdi77bmby1d-lnMMVPgmFyN-gg59dBNx8pVzqhb/s1600/coasters+11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1247" data-original-width="1600" height="249" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5w2bzaQZ8UWgfPC0EvWO6AEW-4BipmHSsRZc__66K6Xx3JTho6NB4kiRHmQDKEPfG3F204iBg9ztIEfKPZqdfi7cQwFxy9n5Z9_IEtwdi77bmby1d-lnMMVPgmFyN-gg59dBNx8pVzqhb/s320/coasters+11.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I love how easy the GO! makes these to make. The directions for these coasters are all over the web, so you can find detailed tutorials elsewhere. Look for Criss-Cross Coasters, such as <a href="http://allsorts.typepad.com/allsorts/2006/11/crisscross_coas.html" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://www.bethanyreynolds.com/coasters.html" target="_blank">here</a>. I should note that some of the other tutorials don't use batting. I like the extra body and support some batting inside provides, so that's how I prefer to make mine. It's not necessary though. Here's a brief rundown on directions of how I make mine for anyone so interested.<br />
<br />
I use the GO! Circles die for the 5" fabric circles and the Dresden Plate die for the 4" batting circles.<br />
<br />
First, cut out circles -- 5" circles out of the fabric and 4" circles of batting. Each single coaster takes six fabric circles (4 for the four-patch top, 1 for the backing, 1 for the lining) and one batting circle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNq_bHmtbrC5kfylTDEc6iauHHS1V0E_sotXBpmXYBx6nUsXlo9lNNkPd1rC1y99qGkLsTP74c_Uel_3u_3_mwt6rcU_MeQr-Llp0vkZDGCv0ICYO5mgu68M7NEwzugKWq0AbmITO6Nd7v/s1600/coasters+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1424" data-original-width="1600" height="284" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNq_bHmtbrC5kfylTDEc6iauHHS1V0E_sotXBpmXYBx6nUsXlo9lNNkPd1rC1y99qGkLsTP74c_Uel_3u_3_mwt6rcU_MeQr-Llp0vkZDGCv0ICYO5mgu68M7NEwzugKWq0AbmITO6Nd7v/s320/coasters+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Choose the four fabrics for the top and iron them in half.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU_o7JwzRfuObOAAx1ozcChCmlsSohJl7zrwFywQBBNOUeT_XB6TowKNKNf1Dl4kZMb1HVckCMkH1emm5WUw0uaGeszJNVPF5FRGqt-7keZdUWqoA3nkfeDDX5_Rfir5aJjE7ti1sqcrDQ/s1600/coasters+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="917" data-original-width="1600" height="183" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU_o7JwzRfuObOAAx1ozcChCmlsSohJl7zrwFywQBBNOUeT_XB6TowKNKNf1Dl4kZMb1HVckCMkH1emm5WUw0uaGeszJNVPF5FRGqt-7keZdUWqoA3nkfeDDX5_Rfir5aJjE7ti1sqcrDQ/s320/coasters+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then create the layers, starting from the bottom.<br />
1. The lining circle, right side down.<br />
2. The batting centered in the circle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbpj0_gmr4r5MP-ARrsRM2IZDD05iTyyMLuva4A2aDzSVFgXKkIy1Yv6NsYEOxUCgsN2xIInRUe9glkLJPmtmwXKOPYlxpDbnfoz0FrktPMmehjSv3Dfm-nyK6tfN1tyy2aG0Rvq_DWcqM/s1600/coasters+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1415" data-original-width="1600" height="283" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbpj0_gmr4r5MP-ARrsRM2IZDD05iTyyMLuva4A2aDzSVFgXKkIy1Yv6NsYEOxUCgsN2xIInRUe9glkLJPmtmwXKOPYlxpDbnfoz0FrktPMmehjSv3Dfm-nyK6tfN1tyy2aG0Rvq_DWcqM/s320/coasters+3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
3. The backing fabric right side up.<br />
4. The first of the half circles.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgebjd4vB_yS3T8iWPSRqA447Iv3DjuGNoSlmq5836v0xzevadtfKrPyvn5SMUL636mguIlKsjSXrWSVi9OMNyujffsM6BL41URLOBsf6RWEeTjuw3pYJYqyoFmgGLKRzsZWzHmjDka2AIY/s1600/coasters+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1434" data-original-width="1600" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgebjd4vB_yS3T8iWPSRqA447Iv3DjuGNoSlmq5836v0xzevadtfKrPyvn5SMUL636mguIlKsjSXrWSVi9OMNyujffsM6BL41URLOBsf6RWEeTjuw3pYJYqyoFmgGLKRzsZWzHmjDka2AIY/s320/coasters+4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
5. Place the second of the half-circles perpendicular to the first.<br />
6. The third and fourth half-circles continue to work around, with half of the fourth half-circle tucked beneath the first. I use a ruler to make sure my four patch is square.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLIHoGt8dmkYJy3ZrDkmkOetrz2JxAdnzHGHX4fXryiBc2TH2QdUI38GDDmgWMh4EyubTRgz4Ipg8VW8PDrSY3V64aYOAGTqlJv57ETz9G23NCcUQb0kNb7xkpqd8zPYK0sq8MXRj2jigk/s1600/coasters+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1547" data-original-width="1600" height="309" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLIHoGt8dmkYJy3ZrDkmkOetrz2JxAdnzHGHX4fXryiBc2TH2QdUI38GDDmgWMh4EyubTRgz4Ipg8VW8PDrSY3V64aYOAGTqlJv57ETz9G23NCcUQb0kNb7xkpqd8zPYK0sq8MXRj2jigk/s320/coasters+5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After that, I clip the circles with wonder clips. I make sure both the front and back are lying flat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9TEtMJUNIB9MY2AKwStYCHRf9MxPJDCSzIzH-17QXG_Zgir-zQ7xXLFTrQJaoA091DaZceLI3hdaaAAoFaXa2TmqbM8JKOpWHzxpVf4IzFw35xewRhR-5u0JU34giPTKxx82gQFWxMBBj/s1600/coasters+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1500" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9TEtMJUNIB9MY2AKwStYCHRf9MxPJDCSzIzH-17QXG_Zgir-zQ7xXLFTrQJaoA091DaZceLI3hdaaAAoFaXa2TmqbM8JKOpWHzxpVf4IzFw35xewRhR-5u0JU34giPTKxx82gQFWxMBBj/s320/coasters+6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWvs7nddnNVJ0OnqLPmIn0GB6-TVhRfEZeOF66oYZlPE26XFYSZ-3p8TQ8TzPvFKDbD1zGEfLl5gGJ3fWWpoYTJt3RsI3aB1vr_IsXi5aD4eA5USquLSP0hqLYa6p6PdZcX1mRRvBrJHG6/s1600/coasters+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1498" data-original-width="1600" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWvs7nddnNVJ0OnqLPmIn0GB6-TVhRfEZeOF66oYZlPE26XFYSZ-3p8TQ8TzPvFKDbD1zGEfLl5gGJ3fWWpoYTJt3RsI3aB1vr_IsXi5aD4eA5USquLSP0hqLYa6p6PdZcX1mRRvBrJHG6/s320/coasters+7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then sew a 1/4" seam around the edge.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQiXH7Hq8g1l0ILVuQoLkhCzKsTV38Rb4dTyNcLfmsOoPP-5qYv6_yQqpe4iwEmcs2V9hHP2y0CLz5vCO3dnz3cNUrgyXz1kLykOzVe9_uQlFRGsQ07YEEg3AHr98CI6gJD7VP5_8aKGX4/s1600/coasters+8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1069" data-original-width="1600" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQiXH7Hq8g1l0ILVuQoLkhCzKsTV38Rb4dTyNcLfmsOoPP-5qYv6_yQqpe4iwEmcs2V9hHP2y0CLz5vCO3dnz3cNUrgyXz1kLykOzVe9_uQlFRGsQ07YEEg3AHr98CI6gJD7VP5_8aKGX4/s320/coasters+8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Turn it inside out and there it is, one perfect circle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA7oHtqj-kgEDTJ8h6YJxl0wBruy6mOlj7T4RyaX6LmaD0i0V-ZuuPJh8KQ_40hIkO0qnYzt7iRz3ioE0Ua4L0YQ7Ck194CxQ6_1P-kKWbDcolruNryz8605OJS7XMzm4QVfVUyLZcw0Ix/s1600/coasters+9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1518" data-original-width="1600" height="303" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA7oHtqj-kgEDTJ8h6YJxl0wBruy6mOlj7T4RyaX6LmaD0i0V-ZuuPJh8KQ_40hIkO0qnYzt7iRz3ioE0Ua4L0YQ7Ck194CxQ6_1P-kKWbDcolruNryz8605OJS7XMzm4QVfVUyLZcw0Ix/s320/coasters+9.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
With pretty fabric on the back, too, so these are double-sided. (I love that).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHr500HqX3OTUVIX5TFOBu0JROD_lcPvvoqu2zxmr4Na8vgpnNu4DQ58yKALQkNfUdCXcO78W28SqlhRMDaxYDTYuTy5RfzXrDX_E012_IY7ITLQFNZm-LjrQuZnxqTOnGunACqx4OafA2/s1600/coasters+10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1425" data-original-width="1600" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHr500HqX3OTUVIX5TFOBu0JROD_lcPvvoqu2zxmr4Na8vgpnNu4DQ58yKALQkNfUdCXcO78W28SqlhRMDaxYDTYuTy5RfzXrDX_E012_IY7ITLQFNZm-LjrQuZnxqTOnGunACqx4OafA2/s320/coasters+10.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
We have new patio furniture (well, we have the <i>parts </i>-- my own true love still needs to assemble them). I'm looking forward to sitting out on the patio in the evening, sipping a glass of wine, and appreciating the bees which have spent a busy afternoon pollinating our flowers. Soon, I tell myself.<br />
<br />
I've used the GO! for coaster sets before. I made a fuller tutorial using Insul-Brite instead of batting since I wanted to use them inside with hot mugs of coffee. I also used the Round Flower die on them so that the backing circle is actually the top. You can find that tutorial <a href="http://terriesandelin.blogspot.com/2010/12/round-flower-coaster-tutorial.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />

<br />
I like to use charm packs. Now, I'll admit, that's a close fit. The charm square is 5" and the circle is 5", so there's no overlap of fabric over the cutting edges on the die. I'm just careful to line up the charm square so that all four sides touch the edges of the circle on the die. It works just fine.<br />
<br />
So, that was fun. Now I'm on to a bigger project. More on that later.<br />

Instead it was time to finish up another little quilt swap -- this time with the theme houses and villages.<br />

<br />
<br />
I wanted a happy neighborhood, so lots of bright colors.<br />
<br />
This quilt is a pattern I bought from <a href="https://cluckclucksewshop.com/collections/pdf-patterns/products/mini-quilts-booklet-160-pdf-pattern" target="_blank">Cluck Cluck Sew</a>. Such a fun and easy pattern to make.<br />
<br />
This next week I hope to work on the little reproduction quilt again. The week after a friend is coming in from out of town and we'll be working on a bigger project, so this next week is good for me. <br />
<br />
When the semester is on, the summer looks like it will be a vast sea of time. Playtime at that. But then the reality is I have a number of other commitments, and there's still school work to do even if I'm not teaching (I have a new class to design). Still, no complaints. There's a lot more time than otherwise. I'm hoping to get a lot done. (I always <i>hope</i>.)<br />
<br />
And I did get another little red and white(ish) pincushion done this last week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Tg2xY4p6DybdNKwItry9khHqvYrHaLMt1sqRCryHsy5CSrTerwyiOkiw8W5P_DUPRupYsBWSFUGO_epSVrheEK3ufch9Yr1NxozBPNdarqG6aqCCe8NfqUebV8dtqt6qnSv2hDjXO-x5/s1600/Red+Pincushion.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="992" data-original-width="1600" height="198" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Tg2xY4p6DybdNKwItry9khHqvYrHaLMt1sqRCryHsy5CSrTerwyiOkiw8W5P_DUPRupYsBWSFUGO_epSVrheEK3ufch9Yr1NxozBPNdarqG6aqCCe8NfqUebV8dtqt6qnSv2hDjXO-x5/s320/Red+Pincushion.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I love that wooden bowl. Obviously hand-carved. It was my mother's, and my grandmother's before her. It sits on my dining room table and I get to admire it everyday.Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-7736169271654245662017-05-20T09:32:00.001-06:002017-05-20T09:32:49.752-06:00When It SnowsWell, here in Colorado it's been making more like winter than spring. Snow and more snow. Whenever I dared to stick my nose out the deck door, all I heard was the snap of tree limbs cracking throughout the neighborhood. Ouch.<br />
<br />
Though, I have to say, bad weather makes for good sewing. The miniature quilt in plaid got finished.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4eW8m4XDkrDkkCCW6-4KrmeJqeCYniyugYywF8Jhr4d6OUtnfpgj3KlO-iXBxj4sKj92TwLYhK1ZhD1WAfMl6_tThUjqPsx6XYQhcNl9nhAWiiV8wh0EGe6p46pWtOdnHbFJW0v5fY9Um/s1600/Mini+Quilt+Plaid+Tumbler.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4eW8m4XDkrDkkCCW6-4KrmeJqeCYniyugYywF8Jhr4d6OUtnfpgj3KlO-iXBxj4sKj92TwLYhK1ZhD1WAfMl6_tThUjqPsx6XYQhcNl9nhAWiiV8wh0EGe6p46pWtOdnHbFJW0v5fY9Um/s320/Mini+Quilt+Plaid+Tumbler.jpg" width="295" /></a></div>
<br />
I really liked the little one that got sent off in the quilt swap.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh44VPqhWvWOrAOoM5VtVCdjzbizhpovUyeSLBX2rM3iiRZ9LgGQH9QbcYLJRg1JFhMi9-rXwwIZP9uiBTouFH6JVmkOJlax2Q26LjSF4R-enOCjbgvwePFoHLSqCFnNhg4c87O-wteQOSu/s1600/0+doll+quilt+take+one+full+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="316" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh44VPqhWvWOrAOoM5VtVCdjzbizhpovUyeSLBX2rM3iiRZ9LgGQH9QbcYLJRg1JFhMi9-rXwwIZP9uiBTouFH6JVmkOJlax2Q26LjSF4R-enOCjbgvwePFoHLSqCFnNhg4c87O-wteQOSu/s320/0+doll+quilt+take+one+full+quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So I'm making another one, in softer colors this time. (Hmmm. Terrible color in that photo. It's actually very soft and pretty, I think. Perhaps my photo once it's quilted will come out better? . . . Hope springs eternal.)<br />
<br />

<br />
I really couldn't ask for a better way to unwind from end of the semester chaos than reproduction fabrics and little quilts. Of course, before long I need to start prepping for a new class that's just beginning this fall. That will be fun though. So, reading, writing, sewing, crochet, and continuing my efforts to learn how to knit. My goals for the immediate future.<br />
<br />
Ahhh . . . .Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-89864500854882056252017-05-15T11:37:00.000-06:002017-05-15T11:37:34.813-06:00Plugging AlongSo, this past week it's all been about finishing up the semester: grade, grade, grade, break, grade, grade, grade.<br />
<br />
There's a limit to how long I can grade at a time, so I've been pulling out little projects to work on. I cut out the patches for this pincushion years ago. Something that doesn't require mental concentration is exactly what I need during a grading break, so a project where all the thinking has already been done is perfect. All I needed to do here is sew the patches together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii51mXKAfztzwyfWUZ4PFlaQ0m9LfyG2_Ki2fRFhlwY5g63IFDLJBBge2qe_O_sna0w9BSq-BN448STqW3U71RiYMvJieT7y0jaokV65stcuPpW5T6vT2fzS9Esmcqu3xrnnre_CKNGd6S/s1600/00+pincushion.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii51mXKAfztzwyfWUZ4PFlaQ0m9LfyG2_Ki2fRFhlwY5g63IFDLJBBge2qe_O_sna0w9BSq-BN448STqW3U71RiYMvJieT7y0jaokV65stcuPpW5T6vT2fzS9Esmcqu3xrnnre_CKNGd6S/s320/00+pincushion.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I'm hoping to fill a basket with red and white pincushions. Here's my start:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY7bwp7VK2W1dZwDz8A3SP-FkCbVKOxHyBWxszJ5LAG3DECZ5OQZ2-qSC1fM3jhA3QV0vehIM7Lm6iGezflQANEYDLepskjeSuCgCW-yuXz2fW2VeKDG2mCIPXKrVzY3jNSktxz4RjrIM8/s1600/00+red+and+white+quilt+pincushions.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY7bwp7VK2W1dZwDz8A3SP-FkCbVKOxHyBWxszJ5LAG3DECZ5OQZ2-qSC1fM3jhA3QV0vehIM7Lm6iGezflQANEYDLepskjeSuCgCW-yuXz2fW2VeKDG2mCIPXKrVzY3jNSktxz4RjrIM8/s320/00+red+and+white+quilt+pincushions.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
There's just something about red and white . . . .<br />
<br />
But then, once I finished the pincushion, I needed <i>another</i> little something, so I pulled out homespun patches I had also cut out years ago. First, I laid out the patches.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeLRai5gyxMmDyuT_0Q-byTFW3KP1Z3gyOfjuZ4OsSylxIn5J4ikyklR-Z8EKu8x7pKxYkIkxwR5A7qsKSF8pofSfJy_nKXwmE5PDHLq5lb_foUR0_rLnOUSCqXeuBfY7NxuFYU1HyfK8x/s1600/00+homespun+tumbler+patches.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="296" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeLRai5gyxMmDyuT_0Q-byTFW3KP1Z3gyOfjuZ4OsSylxIn5J4ikyklR-Z8EKu8x7pKxYkIkxwR5A7qsKSF8pofSfJy_nKXwmE5PDHLq5lb_foUR0_rLnOUSCqXeuBfY7NxuFYU1HyfK8x/s320/00+homespun+tumbler+patches.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And then started sewing them onto a Fold and Sew foundation. (I call this my long tumbler to set it apart from the tumbler foundation that is in <a href="http://terriesandelin.blogspot.com/2015/10/miniatures-in-minutes.html" target="_blank">Miniatures in Minutes</a>.) <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIKn1hAGKu-c1XMqLe3mxW9fD7hJZ12n3eWMT1WEqQgb-g3Kd72Nweu4dFhRmaYAZuGxkCXn5h6Jd5lWGFregB62O5-k3JqvuNFmdlTHYl7Mdck-mevcj7BG0cQVmaqCszyUrG1LpRucpW/s1600/00+tumbler+patches+on+the+foundation.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIKn1hAGKu-c1XMqLe3mxW9fD7hJZ12n3eWMT1WEqQgb-g3Kd72Nweu4dFhRmaYAZuGxkCXn5h6Jd5lWGFregB62O5-k3JqvuNFmdlTHYl7Mdck-mevcj7BG0cQVmaqCszyUrG1LpRucpW/s320/00+tumbler+patches+on+the+foundation.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Perhaps I'll finish that up later this week? I love the warmth of homespun. And it sure feels good to get some of those little projects hanging out in the drawers done!<br />
<br />

<br />

<br />
I <i>love</i> cheddar and blue as a combination. What a gorgeous little quilt!<br />
<br />
And look at the beautiful hand stitching. How pretty and even those stitches are!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Carol sent some lovely little extras as well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
More of those reproduction fabrics we love and a cute button and tape measure fabric. There's also some Canada flag fabric but I missed getting that in the photo. (Oops.)<br />
<br />
Thank you, Carol!<br />
<br />
My first little quilt was a little too little. It's here with the pincushion I made as a little extra.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjihpx5NKrh-hvTvEmyOsep3QZvIeapf-nyXSMrcgPXaOnJRmk_T-M1BJfEcF_YXoc1nL-ZSjGKL6ZHABj7Bxn-qx92jiEJUCpEpHa0_vALdFn_3r1BUsyrjIbPqvUxPoYDKq0P6kqqeQ4u/s1600/0+doll+quilt+take+1+with+pincushion.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="224" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjihpx5NKrh-hvTvEmyOsep3QZvIeapf-nyXSMrcgPXaOnJRmk_T-M1BJfEcF_YXoc1nL-ZSjGKL6ZHABj7Bxn-qx92jiEJUCpEpHa0_vALdFn_3r1BUsyrjIbPqvUxPoYDKq0P6kqqeQ4u/s320/0+doll+quilt+take+1+with+pincushion.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I also made one of the <a href="http://ayumills.blogspot.com/2008/05/tutorial-fabric-basket.html" target="_blank">Pink Penguin fabric baskets</a> in linen and reproduction fabrics, but I forgot to take a picture of that.<br />
<br />
Here's a second take on a doll quilt, a little bigger this time. The X-Blocks finish at 3 inches.<br />
<br />

How it interferes! But, I'm almost there. It's the week of finals. Which means grading chaos, of course.<br />
<br />
Still, earlier in the semester I pulled out my AccuQuilt GO! and ran off more tumblers and sewed them on. This guy is -- finally! -- ready for borders.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXmjFFkKZnY7rnleQpWChpfgYpW_uvh_fack5oCydx1duGvOtsxMu6NIbKrzwJ0k9sX01HhLZHPn79nM22HixGwY4V6zuTC_MIzcDAUzMi2azpemNEOqQY1xK6EDc-GP62l7-4sc8UxBX8/s1600/5+tumbler+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="184" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXmjFFkKZnY7rnleQpWChpfgYpW_uvh_fack5oCydx1duGvOtsxMu6NIbKrzwJ0k9sX01HhLZHPn79nM22HixGwY4V6zuTC_MIzcDAUzMi2azpemNEOqQY1xK6EDc-GP62l7-4sc8UxBX8/s320/5+tumbler+quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And I joined in the Humble Quilts doll quilt swap, so I'll have pictures to show soon.<br />
<br />
But for now, it's grading, and looking forward to sew time ahead!Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-62217138669070246622017-02-14T21:02:00.000-07:002017-02-14T21:02:16.998-07:00Little BitsEvery bit of progress counts, right?<br />
<br />
I finished another miniature in process that has languished in a dresser drawer for years. I am so happy with this one. I love how dramatic the red and black is. This is scrappier than it seems at first glance. Each one of those half-hexagon(ish) shapes is actually three 1/2" finished triangles. A bit insane, really, but I love it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUsBrd9uvpmlE8sYc2O8u-jAJpkbCa3AEDd9Sl0swuwxSlf80sr5XmaBSfpnwff7YzlWMNfXTyBDhY81mFza0sNeC4ABFLPW1hus4S0-p-q4M-D-DxNPWuiSnfcJ92Kdm7cWHlzkuOCKIQ/s1600/25+red+and+black+mini+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="318" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUsBrd9uvpmlE8sYc2O8u-jAJpkbCa3AEDd9Sl0swuwxSlf80sr5XmaBSfpnwff7YzlWMNfXTyBDhY81mFza0sNeC4ABFLPW1hus4S0-p-q4M-D-DxNPWuiSnfcJ92Kdm7cWHlzkuOCKIQ/s320/25+red+and+black+mini+quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then I used some GO! dies to add appliqué to the round robin I'm (finally) working on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFnD1HTjT5DAErLCz3hPaD1FJMNJDvGwGKn3mf4kNw-v6w6OB3Nf34FsphbnmiW3EcRMeU3TeUD9EIeCDmxR1OC0FbZ1lSjBsYYvAbLvWgKCKy5l5wgLwSt8NcuhMg-2SiaViZbEZLSdkT/s1600/22+GO%2521+baby+applique.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFnD1HTjT5DAErLCz3hPaD1FJMNJDvGwGKn3mf4kNw-v6w6OB3Nf34FsphbnmiW3EcRMeU3TeUD9EIeCDmxR1OC0FbZ1lSjBsYYvAbLvWgKCKy5l5wgLwSt8NcuhMg-2SiaViZbEZLSdkT/s320/22+GO%2521+baby+applique.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXgNByF7HKXMBtgL7qouZBNH7x9UlrBZ_c51jVb7sig09QFeeNny5UFU_0ogSuRx9iXdpTiWjamu3G2IdTT5-SJpkYFJA1FjsqxkPUJ4fSZZIiSHVLq_SIxafhk9y_AFaHh-67m2PGxI58/s1600/24+GO+baby+applique+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXgNByF7HKXMBtgL7qouZBNH7x9UlrBZ_c51jVb7sig09QFeeNny5UFU_0ogSuRx9iXdpTiWjamu3G2IdTT5-SJpkYFJA1FjsqxkPUJ4fSZZIiSHVLq_SIxafhk9y_AFaHh-67m2PGxI58/s320/24+GO+baby+applique+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
They're working well, I think, to cover up bare spots that turned out to need something.<br />
<br />
I used leftovers to piece together a backing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4SQ74D431VnWMvQEv2bhcI943IaqO6aquPu_3R6XTbY-OKK0TSHnKbhri_bpO2oAurgVXgcYyld4hXIz8_74WpvCq9ySPnkzyyrPqVJwu2rON5a8WSw0eEDnd_FbEn8NAKAL0-uYC3EDU/s1600/21+backing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="283" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4SQ74D431VnWMvQEv2bhcI943IaqO6aquPu_3R6XTbY-OKK0TSHnKbhri_bpO2oAurgVXgcYyld4hXIz8_74WpvCq9ySPnkzyyrPqVJwu2rON5a8WSw0eEDnd_FbEn8NAKAL0-uYC3EDU/s320/21+backing.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now I need to baste it together and get to the actual quilting! School is on, however, and that means quilt time has cut way back. Particularly since I've got a set of papers and midterm exams to grade. (Give me a week and life will resume).<br />
<br />
And since I want to continue to work on finishing up other little projects, I'm returning to the <a href="http://www.kaleidoscopecollections.com/" target="_blank">Kaleidoscope Kreator</a> block I made years ago. I decided if I made up another one, I could use the pair as outer pockets on a tote bag. I got to play for an hour one morning and came up with the new design. Even though I haven't made much with this program, I'll admit, the designs it creates really are incredible. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzBHV9PiUrMh8EIjMmLmumWu2H7DsUDEigE4gy1PUdCcXhc4z5DrtNh7KBpMDXgM8nnzEqVjrb_PF574pVydyMueYVVNQD_S2G6Pc2JyrGn9gkT7-cQCO0pWLnQeT41dR3tH61_s9opTcP/s1600/26+kaleidoscope+kreator+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzBHV9PiUrMh8EIjMmLmumWu2H7DsUDEigE4gy1PUdCcXhc4z5DrtNh7KBpMDXgM8nnzEqVjrb_PF574pVydyMueYVVNQD_S2G6Pc2JyrGn9gkT7-cQCO0pWLnQeT41dR3tH61_s9opTcP/s320/26+kaleidoscope+kreator+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here the new design is, starting to sew the feathers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf7tre8GFRS4Gt0yVrqFkJlSmI_-XdDHXe9J1e3NEGPK0X-MIj1d2u5y-jurHtH-h6IOwy_TlskR-F_hDmfGxH4NUgYnSbID8sEt7JIZXKt4_0FYo0cr0QGysKcgLtVuzt_jQooAwn_FSb/s1600/27+kaleidoscope+ready+to+sew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf7tre8GFRS4Gt0yVrqFkJlSmI_-XdDHXe9J1e3NEGPK0X-MIj1d2u5y-jurHtH-h6IOwy_TlskR-F_hDmfGxH4NUgYnSbID8sEt7JIZXKt4_0FYo0cr0QGysKcgLtVuzt_jQooAwn_FSb/s320/27+kaleidoscope+ready+to+sew.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And now I just need time to get back to the sewing room. I go to my office with the old Rawhide theme in my head: "Grading, grading, grading . . . keep those essays moving . . ."Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-53271722118138335072017-01-27T08:48:00.000-07:002017-01-27T08:48:34.831-07:00Blocks Be Gone!So, one set of blocks that have been haunting the closet shelves are gone. First, I made a baby quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuTBytY1vkgS62GGc-MSxYjAFJlMxX0WiH5fEopdhXVCDdP8vHrp9uBhaRfNd9UySvnZZ7D3P2__5DhYg6wwK1C6ndfLD1oc4dtE3iWpzXn3h6kcYSIOiMbzMPS5mk8VTrepK_Wcp9xZKD/s1600/002+string+baby+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="301" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuTBytY1vkgS62GGc-MSxYjAFJlMxX0WiH5fEopdhXVCDdP8vHrp9uBhaRfNd9UySvnZZ7D3P2__5DhYg6wwK1C6ndfLD1oc4dtE3iWpzXn3h6kcYSIOiMbzMPS5mk8VTrepK_Wcp9xZKD/s320/002+string+baby+quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Very bright and happy.<br />
<br />
Then I took the leftover blocks and made a pile of hot pads. I used the AccuQuilt GO! to cut the circles.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUl5xli66S46b_40DIppBLzdE5_IY4fe1L9mp45cWbsLtlTbhhmG9dNdAAndfWjaSgf6lAoAKJUvcnBrY64sIbb2usENQ0fV7jIhgVFlvpbjP2N0guUPTcp3cFPE7ybkjzZFodg9sneMWi/s1600/003+blocks+be+gone+hotpads.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUl5xli66S46b_40DIppBLzdE5_IY4fe1L9mp45cWbsLtlTbhhmG9dNdAAndfWjaSgf6lAoAKJUvcnBrY64sIbb2usENQ0fV7jIhgVFlvpbjP2N0guUPTcp3cFPE7ybkjzZFodg9sneMWi/s320/003+blocks+be+gone+hotpads.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I think they look very summery!<br />
<br />
I also finished up a little miniature quilt in process that had been stuffed in a drawer for several years. When I took the photo, I was still tacking down binding so that explains the clips in the corners.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDpf50tmuU-FoqvY-AuOqt2FPdwNvmEB-XsErHvRqmMJ0dTTTPBacoW84anbY6-QU1UinFCdjKw5MPXpNZthUrjkDkKFq5XIf8kimByoKzEWQI7Xiqr_4Ehw1m9-rP3EMnsckgMnX3n0ap/s1600/0004+red+white+and+blue+mini+shoofly+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDpf50tmuU-FoqvY-AuOqt2FPdwNvmEB-XsErHvRqmMJ0dTTTPBacoW84anbY6-QU1UinFCdjKw5MPXpNZthUrjkDkKFq5XIf8kimByoKzEWQI7Xiqr_4Ehw1m9-rP3EMnsckgMnX3n0ap/s320/0004+red+white+and+blue+mini+shoofly+quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
That miniature was an experiment. Believe it or not, the central piecing -- the shoo-fly blocks and the sashing -- was all done on a single foundation using Fold and Sew. It worked but was way too fussy to be a truly viable method. Still, I'm impressed it worked as well as it did!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7Atv3vNSRi-aLdimlpJcmeWlAOpuLvoUNsq3oe59LIwmRlq2GBx9MJYbo-KsYaz4GXpsDfOZsKeDyukqFq22yMUkoXi9YFJ-kqhxIAn4wCv0Vw2R1a7wKtf75TkpQ9uVmzSre9jqp4MWf/s1600/005+shoofly+miniature+quilt+closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7Atv3vNSRi-aLdimlpJcmeWlAOpuLvoUNsq3oe59LIwmRlq2GBx9MJYbo-KsYaz4GXpsDfOZsKeDyukqFq22yMUkoXi9YFJ-kqhxIAn4wCv0Vw2R1a7wKtf75TkpQ9uVmzSre9jqp4MWf/s320/005+shoofly+miniature+quilt+closeup.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And then, for this weeks GO! Sew Challenge, I'm working on finishing up another project that has been sitting in the closet for years. (So-o-o-o many of those!) This will be another baby quilt for a charity. This quilt was a round robin. I'm using the GO! dies to finish in some blank areas that I think need some filling. At this stage, I'm just cutting out paper shapes to see how they fit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjBaVCa3seRQGI78c00OwwKbeNd8-lkf_bxlbRaedV3HC7-oAZKlXEqI4x56cfF40n0nY5oqDfy8Dz0LuU6pP4BgNVMA9Pqu_WAGjgGdZkTV41ljkTBdiv1q9EQlrWud_AGjPoJAwvZBoK/s1600/001+accuquilt+baby+dies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjBaVCa3seRQGI78c00OwwKbeNd8-lkf_bxlbRaedV3HC7-oAZKlXEqI4x56cfF40n0nY5oqDfy8Dz0LuU6pP4BgNVMA9Pqu_WAGjgGdZkTV41ljkTBdiv1q9EQlrWud_AGjPoJAwvZBoK/s320/001+accuquilt+baby+dies.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
We'll see where I am next week. Right now, it just feels right to work on clearing out the old before bringing in any more new.Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-29208475324835169552017-01-14T10:07:00.000-07:002017-01-14T10:07:55.510-07:00Bit by BitSo, progress is being made. I finished the 50 Shades of Red swap miniature. My own true love, bless his heart, says it looks like an alien: "I can see its eyes."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifLLUzh3RnvYn6-Wcmm_f2lPfL91N_2JWy5LmzTZXG9QR3pd6WL0Jh_MqjOSLIdpHwiTvvWey70Eapt5neyeWQXQjEZVQ2yg97a8BFBcq3c93Cxur058ctzatzFzdREmoAf-sLF-7bUVFN/s1600/17+Be+Pixel+My+Heart+Miniature+Quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifLLUzh3RnvYn6-Wcmm_f2lPfL91N_2JWy5LmzTZXG9QR3pd6WL0Jh_MqjOSLIdpHwiTvvWey70Eapt5neyeWQXQjEZVQ2yg97a8BFBcq3c93Cxur058ctzatzFzdREmoAf-sLF-7bUVFN/s320/17+Be+Pixel+My+Heart+Miniature+Quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I got the binding done on the Everlasting Tree miniature quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF4L2qQyFQzYfmygVEGFgCLDAAPvMvAx6LQtHBPnTpE4Qlh_pjvvJU_-aAIqPVbNZvG0PomywqfVOLe5a9kHQ8Zjy-aSPdngSdwf0dQmXMOzZ8w889bOt8mUgNW5Ze2G2vhtJ3bA0pJbNg/s1600/16+Everlasting+Tree+Miniature+Quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF4L2qQyFQzYfmygVEGFgCLDAAPvMvAx6LQtHBPnTpE4Qlh_pjvvJU_-aAIqPVbNZvG0PomywqfVOLe5a9kHQ8Zjy-aSPdngSdwf0dQmXMOzZ8w889bOt8mUgNW5Ze2G2vhtJ3bA0pJbNg/s320/16+Everlasting+Tree+Miniature+Quilt.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
I finished binding the AccuQuilt GO! Fall Medley hexagon hotpads.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXzQQ373VAZBLpoNeafgQGO3ZBKe70_FQhia-1MwRsODJTTnPeMhImLJKsk0zaPhQ3H2jfWexKrYKIeH1HbKi7WVpIhOGKXsJNfjnFGGddJnXI_DPGy0yKr_spYkqwOwjm76d591Z1Bqwq/s1600/15+AccuQuilt+Fall+Medley+Hexagon+Hotpad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="216" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXzQQ373VAZBLpoNeafgQGO3ZBKe70_FQhia-1MwRsODJTTnPeMhImLJKsk0zaPhQ3H2jfWexKrYKIeH1HbKi7WVpIhOGKXsJNfjnFGGddJnXI_DPGy0yKr_spYkqwOwjm76d591Z1Bqwq/s320/15+AccuQuilt+Fall+Medley+Hexagon+Hotpad.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And I got a good start on a Blocks Be Gone! project -- as in, I had blocks that have been sitting around for years because they seemed too good to throw away, but I didn't like them enough to finish the quilt. So, this last week, the goal was to make them GO AWAY. I'll have more to show in a few days, but here's part of the process. Using the GO! circle die and making hotpads.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Whew!Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-15813209213488083512017-01-07T10:37:00.000-07:002017-01-07T10:37:40.542-07:00Progress is GoodSo, here's my first take on the Shades of Red Miniature quilt swap. I decided it was a little too traditional for my partner, so this one is going to stay home with me. I love it, so I don't mind. This center piecing will finish at 7" square. I still need to decide on borders.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAjqnHpMew9uyjSpznatbOrRn8scHZdbiT0RhN52PfPWzAz_yKEY9ODx0weIj8IPgN3HZ-njDDmrIgFLgKG1gyaVuHwWflO7Rj05TIajhzmR7ilkpBxnQRu7TqgE-cC3TnFA0J3X9bJ3hJ/s1600/4+Shades+of+Red+Minature+take+one+in+process.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAjqnHpMew9uyjSpznatbOrRn8scHZdbiT0RhN52PfPWzAz_yKEY9ODx0weIj8IPgN3HZ-njDDmrIgFLgKG1gyaVuHwWflO7Rj05TIajhzmR7ilkpBxnQRu7TqgE-cC3TnFA0J3X9bJ3hJ/s320/4+Shades+of+Red+Minature+take+one+in+process.jpg" width="311" /></a></div>
<br />
After deciding the one above was too traditional, I aimed for a lot more contemporary.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcO7C_LeKETb70jE2rERhxczRDTfGWJ5lOZKa_ronq2R9LnX5YF9vfkRhl8MJfPSlzN8NXIP9ofs9RznhWAtz3TTFlgKOFzqbeogA4cgzv-S_1O5qKu_Ql8LdjI71-P5ISftc2setS0mnH/s1600/3+Shades+of+Red+Miniature+in+process.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcO7C_LeKETb70jE2rERhxczRDTfGWJ5lOZKa_ronq2R9LnX5YF9vfkRhl8MJfPSlzN8NXIP9ofs9RznhWAtz3TTFlgKOFzqbeogA4cgzv-S_1O5qKu_Ql8LdjI71-P5ISftc2setS0mnH/s320/3+Shades+of+Red+Miniature+in+process.jpg" width="302" /></a></div>
<br />
I think that solid red is going to be the border. I like how it lets all the attention go to the center piecing. This foundation is the 13-Square foundation from <a href="http://terriesandelin.blogspot.com/2015/10/miniatures-in-minutes.html" target="_blank">Miniatures in Minutes</a>. The center piecing finishes at 6 1/2". The design is a wee variation on the hearts project I put on the <a href="http://www.terriesandelin.com/projects.html" target="_blank">website</a> -- this little guy:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUMQQt8V3tJV4LOPPu6qxPOsKMvF4i8KrAhgT-rkChxhVOTXtU4l-YKQVmLi12ethxObR3VuM99oSmo4QenOf6ueyr6yGowMe9qdhq2-EERa1LT86HUXwkBJmZQByG5w8z3XcLgL8lOjBD/s1600/13+sq+hearts+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUMQQt8V3tJV4LOPPu6qxPOsKMvF4i8KrAhgT-rkChxhVOTXtU4l-YKQVmLi12ethxObR3VuM99oSmo4QenOf6ueyr6yGowMe9qdhq2-EERa1LT86HUXwkBJmZQByG5w8z3XcLgL8lOjBD/s320/13+sq+hearts+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It never ceases to amaze me what a difference fabric makes. That more traditional heart went to a swap partner, too. I really need to make one of these little heart minis for me! Though I also have a larger version done in batiks on a 17 by 17 grid.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXRIgFcD0has2usDYkCzh7uq3hNhNqc9kd2M9IbsQbv-ZBCg8x7ZoGbaEEdspUSGvX-7cjSGbfA1VQrwtKSBfuzqo4hK2N6-9599r0kuVp2c4NRVf5SdqqdgLvUxY3I1W2Drdoa8UpsQPL/s1600/17+sq+hearts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXRIgFcD0has2usDYkCzh7uq3hNhNqc9kd2M9IbsQbv-ZBCg8x7ZoGbaEEdspUSGvX-7cjSGbfA1VQrwtKSBfuzqo4hK2N6-9599r0kuVp2c4NRVf5SdqqdgLvUxY3I1W2Drdoa8UpsQPL/s320/17+sq+hearts.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And just because I was off the web for a while, I didn't show this little guy from a summer swap. The general guideline was that it be six inches or under. My partner requested neutrals with just a pop of color. So, here's another variation on the 13-square foundation (though I only used 11 by 11 in order to make it fit)-- this time based on a Trip Around the World. I called it "Color My World."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmG6jnBm96nce2icExlVxRnKLMXgK_T_mCBP8t6bslhsVRiGrFqmJvuC0Og0Xm6nWJKlJVjofSLRFd371tEFiacevh5j3oT_k-rdFvHZjBLx2N6LrnlV0SZD0BLGwKAXvDa2hDOGcj1reD/s1600/1+Color+My+World+Mini+Quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmG6jnBm96nce2icExlVxRnKLMXgK_T_mCBP8t6bslhsVRiGrFqmJvuC0Og0Xm6nWJKlJVjofSLRFd371tEFiacevh5j3oT_k-rdFvHZjBLx2N6LrnlV0SZD0BLGwKAXvDa2hDOGcj1reD/s320/1+Color+My+World+Mini+Quilt.jpg" width="307" /></a> </div>
<br />
And a little close-up:<br />
<br />

<br />
Whew. The next few days it's all about finishing little quilts. I am SO happy to be back in the sewing room!Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-11881777913803138602017-01-02T14:54:00.000-07:002017-01-02T14:54:52.510-07:00Ready, Set, GO!So, 2016 was a challenge in so many ways. I enter 2017 with a sewing room that needs a lot of organization but is, thank you very much, functional. I also limp in after some surgery that's knocked me back several months worth. So it goes. That said, I'm ready to get back up and doing.<br />
<br />
A year back I was doing my own personal challenge, the GO! Sew Challenge. I felt like I wasn't using my Accuquilt GO! enough, so I decided that every week I would work on a project that used it in some way. Sometimes it felt intimidating figuring out what I was going to do, but I actually really liked how it kept me moving. So, in that spirit, that's how I'm starting out the new year.<br />
<br />
I have two big sewing intentions to begin with -- one, another GO! Sew Challenge, and two, working on finishing up some of the backlog of projects in process.<br />
<br />
Week 1. I've pulled out a project I worked on earlier this year -- it uses the Hexagon and Fall Medley dies to create hot pads. I just need to add binding to one of the hot pads and I'll be done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I think they're pretty darn cute.<br />
<br />
I need to make a shades of red quilt for a mini quilt swap and the GO! is great for cutting out triangles trimmed just the way I need for the paper foundations. These will finish at 1 inch square.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-ekRGCUPqQo0EmHkXyo33JucTglL5QXMOBKc1tTFqtSIxkfS0oUk0l_TvY7-cJfakczsQgzFbUtY8l1LxSWnypfsYAUtINpPTfi9F1_orRQbF7v7AlacsjbuvZiM1sd9ngnfX-VYoCUFC/s1600/4+Accuquilt+half+square+triangles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="271" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-ekRGCUPqQo0EmHkXyo33JucTglL5QXMOBKc1tTFqtSIxkfS0oUk0l_TvY7-cJfakczsQgzFbUtY8l1LxSWnypfsYAUtINpPTfi9F1_orRQbF7v7AlacsjbuvZiM1sd9ngnfX-VYoCUFC/s320/4+Accuquilt+half+square+triangles.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's a broader view of the quilt in process:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjChqdi0Pc-m-0JOP5GnEqhjJ9MvVdDOg8DTRou6FztzsABXqfzFjsACCZbLzDvc2V7sU_vnzYnWuAtxGoqbPunZCdGoEJ-ugtckVy71LT_8ztxKl9sVTn7_mZjbSWTNK8QtWcYwVrfdPlX/s1600/3+Red+Mini+patches.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="259" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjChqdi0Pc-m-0JOP5GnEqhjJ9MvVdDOg8DTRou6FztzsABXqfzFjsACCZbLzDvc2V7sU_vnzYnWuAtxGoqbPunZCdGoEJ-ugtckVy71LT_8ztxKl9sVTn7_mZjbSWTNK8QtWcYwVrfdPlX/s320/3+Red+Mini+patches.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And in the spirit of finishing, I also finally got to quilting the red and white everlasting tree quilt. Now it just needs binding.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ7jYyDptoyfZSK83cgdZY2oifq729t4rGyw6QTyzEqCPAxNd_5i7NHGNDfJRsZa0Az7fhyLHEmHo3LJKXRxu5G8Yc8V96h08cVk-C-f1za41LwGQ9lOyZMqsYvL11Prj4C4m8Oi1SukHr/s1600/6+Red+and+White+Miniature+Quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="269" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ7jYyDptoyfZSK83cgdZY2oifq729t4rGyw6QTyzEqCPAxNd_5i7NHGNDfJRsZa0Az7fhyLHEmHo3LJKXRxu5G8Yc8V96h08cVk-C-f1za41LwGQ9lOyZMqsYvL11Prj4C4m8Oi1SukHr/s320/6+Red+and+White+Miniature+Quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So, here it is. A good start, I think.Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-29456719993118445502016-08-27T10:24:00.000-06:002016-08-27T10:24:50.733-06:00Am I Blue?There's a lot of blue going on around here.<br />
<br />
There's more denim rag circles.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw4aibG4cQyY-h-nnU13qK40SfKcPvsUdd779vPTkK8HJgAjOUsq4V0zUrBcrbX3Osm99f-zRIXTE9yuxnHIKJouVf_iFSNtcOUluFCQuVQxJahyIGbmp8i3QlqXUWhhY1xamXcb7z8rHe/s1600/denim+rag+circles+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw4aibG4cQyY-h-nnU13qK40SfKcPvsUdd779vPTkK8HJgAjOUsq4V0zUrBcrbX3Osm99f-zRIXTE9yuxnHIKJouVf_iFSNtcOUluFCQuVQxJahyIGbmp8i3QlqXUWhhY1xamXcb7z8rHe/s320/denim+rag+circles+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And then with the French General added.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeUfBHWTh6QazCdX9d3LsGcBG5_qZZxZvW9lx3RkjQ5of7NGP8CFf-s8mgK0Y6tZ64ea5mTBl9jAqktwyBR0v_-8q0iNTix4DPbU5oQXYwXwjcDA7X_LQiJpXI4krD3vr6QQXL3VcNU4JV/s1600/denim+rag+circles+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeUfBHWTh6QazCdX9d3LsGcBG5_qZZxZvW9lx3RkjQ5of7NGP8CFf-s8mgK0Y6tZ64ea5mTBl9jAqktwyBR0v_-8q0iNTix4DPbU5oQXYwXwjcDA7X_LQiJpXI4krD3vr6QQXL3VcNU4JV/s320/denim+rag+circles+3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I love that combination, the red, grey, and tan of the French General against the blue denim. But yikes, that quilt project seems to be one I can only work on in small doses! (It's so heavy and hard to maneuver once I'm joining rows).<br />
<br />
Plus some more crochet.<br />
<br />
Dishcloths. Because, why not?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQto4tpwDbTrT_uhQWWXc-Wi2Xsvd7pBFDHBgyqfz9KS3GyzlKjEZB834wh6SdeuyB3opoF0rKCyo6Kd0f_EVqKX46CqGHXX6c8Wgq9XGVaR8vh0pM7Qjw8OqDFDvTx-C7BGrx0GfWM7g1/s1600/crochet+dishcloths.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQto4tpwDbTrT_uhQWWXc-Wi2Xsvd7pBFDHBgyqfz9KS3GyzlKjEZB834wh6SdeuyB3opoF0rKCyo6Kd0f_EVqKX46CqGHXX6c8Wgq9XGVaR8vh0pM7Qjw8OqDFDvTx-C7BGrx0GfWM7g1/s320/crochet+dishcloths.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And a little coffee mug cozy and coaster. (I've got no excuse).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqfshGw-TsVAw-W_VBR6silsgAqm2wUsXzIrE0dyqQVPSuNqd8qUqeR7pAhkfcfPkCdj9GCTkzPpioAnr7KO2gS6d8AFbXfw7BAHcpFtqokmhC6U7kwcqYH8ewirhzje1yT0FMFrZ_kvse/s1600/mug+cozy+and+coaster.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="276" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqfshGw-TsVAw-W_VBR6silsgAqm2wUsXzIrE0dyqQVPSuNqd8qUqeR7pAhkfcfPkCdj9GCTkzPpioAnr7KO2gS6d8AFbXfw7BAHcpFtqokmhC6U7kwcqYH8ewirhzje1yT0FMFrZ_kvse/s320/mug+cozy+and+coaster.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

A couple of new GO! dies showed up at the house yesterday. Perhaps I can find something fun to do with them this week?Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-27823140402775752012016-08-06T20:14:00.001-06:002016-08-06T20:16:58.629-06:00Christmas in JulyNow that I have a sewing space to work in again (finally!), I'm getting done some of the little Christmas gifts I like to get started on during summer break. Well, first there was a birthday gift for a little girl -- pretty in pink!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBplKNDKyaYRSIWoqDIJgkl-A07KOQWy-AIQBNOMe6SOeqsKkN9a39T6bow4hge3HJ9xtmAdjdypk5FgKXKJZHqyDhL-YvupPvCv8TLKdsecaLe-g01f5V6XmgoK0KPLO8ukLDwu67bSfv/s1600/0+pink+flamingos.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="185" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBplKNDKyaYRSIWoqDIJgkl-A07KOQWy-AIQBNOMe6SOeqsKkN9a39T6bow4hge3HJ9xtmAdjdypk5FgKXKJZHqyDhL-YvupPvCv8TLKdsecaLe-g01f5V6XmgoK0KPLO8ukLDwu67bSfv/s320/0+pink+flamingos.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And I've been making up some more to have ready for the end of the semester. I love these little bags with the vinyl windows. Such a brilliant idea! So useful! I can never remember what I put in a bag, being able to see it without opening it up? Genius. Kudos to whoever thought of it.<br />

<br />
And another more somber one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh__7gbHbRqVnQ4JRe48kQ2y3J_NLmbZN9Qtk6QxR1m96SGLutfWKsC-KhZdcb0nMCOXBqFM6XbMQqGipnEowjJc7uTEuxPu5TXw3DCXGNFFaw82nFHGaqWteD9R8J0v6AmJnBmLkeGoXoA/s1600/4+brown+vinyl+zipper+bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="210" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh__7gbHbRqVnQ4JRe48kQ2y3J_NLmbZN9Qtk6QxR1m96SGLutfWKsC-KhZdcb0nMCOXBqFM6XbMQqGipnEowjJc7uTEuxPu5TXw3DCXGNFFaw82nFHGaqWteD9R8J0v6AmJnBmLkeGoXoA/s320/4+brown+vinyl+zipper+bag.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Is that manly? From the back?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
And I haven't completely ignored the AccuQuilt GO! either -- some Xmas hotpads for the newlyweds. Notice the owls in love? Awwwww!<br />

<br />
It's been so long since I've had a sewing space, I'm out of practice. I'm starting to warm up though. I've got plans. <br />
<br />
Truth is, I always have plans, more plans than conclusions, truth be told. I'm telling myself there's a good amount of fun to be had in dreaming, too. It's my story and I'm sticking by it!Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-43502196530987403232016-07-20T11:54:00.000-06:002016-07-20T11:54:56.266-06:00GO! SquaresIsn't it nice to use up little bits, the leftovers of this and that? I find it SO satisfying!<br />
<br />
Our department administrative staff has been getting hammered with challenges this summer. They are the best staff ever, and they seem to have an apparently endless store of patience while they deal with faculty and students. I thought a little cheering on was in order.<br />
<br />
First, I made up some little fabric baskets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiqd3_lgZstrMJL1UBXrHdXr9YieUnW40L7Y1n6jcIMXFk6I8skMLdImLgDwch_GWRfCZNPFLXqxmSrGjwGUoRpmjr3kpZgBjLlFPR2rmmK_SSNUiWjTtgrFYDdiq7nt4u-RZVxgTYXj2Y/s1600/fabric+baskets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="159" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiqd3_lgZstrMJL1UBXrHdXr9YieUnW40L7Y1n6jcIMXFk6I8skMLdImLgDwch_GWRfCZNPFLXqxmSrGjwGUoRpmjr3kpZgBjLlFPR2rmmK_SSNUiWjTtgrFYDdiq7nt4u-RZVxgTYXj2Y/s320/fabric+baskets.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I used the <a href="http://ayumills.blogspot.com/2008/05/tutorial-fabric-basket.html" target="_blank">Pink Penguin fabric basket pattern</a> -- one of my favorite patterns.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1RDbARvXzt182w2iH8FR5j9HFJXP366GNkQU2izOsfHstmTnvpKKi-8pb4oacd7zL6L4GTPFJtf_lM_zjrER4bWUqbVIYfLeqIqryzcyqCemNHFqPIl9u_kAAbFS4WV3PY_YcMuCI0Kte/s1600/fabric+basket+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1RDbARvXzt182w2iH8FR5j9HFJXP366GNkQU2izOsfHstmTnvpKKi-8pb4oacd7zL6L4GTPFJtf_lM_zjrER4bWUqbVIYfLeqIqryzcyqCemNHFqPIl9u_kAAbFS4WV3PY_YcMuCI0Kte/s320/fabric+basket+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Because baskets alone are not near gratitude enough, I actually filled them with chocolate before passing them on. I work on the principle that chocolate always makes things better. <br />
<br />
I used the GO! two inch square die and Pellon's fusible grid. (I did a blog post years ago showing how I use the die and the grid. You can find it <a href="http://terriesandelin.blogspot.com/2011/09/go-halloween.html" target="_blank">here</a> if you are interested). I also had some leftover blue charms, so I made up another couple little things.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW36vAseTKlyfGOD6ohUtyTZ8EUb9o7Ko-AmK1EGwLliMo1Nsm2f6jXg_zcnO0bu-VVI0hmMEy6Jj8vxOh10o2Nj_aQD14u5N3aO76wfdw548vDasbWGnDX840tr0oVesnv2HqeuDVGHsf/s1600/blue+basket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW36vAseTKlyfGOD6ohUtyTZ8EUb9o7Ko-AmK1EGwLliMo1Nsm2f6jXg_zcnO0bu-VVI0hmMEy6Jj8vxOh10o2Nj_aQD14u5N3aO76wfdw548vDasbWGnDX840tr0oVesnv2HqeuDVGHsf/s320/blue+basket.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Another basket and a zipper case. I love vinyl windows -- so <i>useful</i>! Kind of a pain in the neck to sew, but I love the result. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLmxB8LucKtTS1jeSbwNhw-6XQbzTSwAD_FBgUOeTZ0hgKF1vvheTdmZnUESiFNdZcVsOfFPxTfdhK_x-mnS8mtPSildEjj99Amcv0-8SHFg3yuIADttQOB5Mmzuswkuu14Nu2eMCOtBqu/s1600/vinyl+window+bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLmxB8LucKtTS1jeSbwNhw-6XQbzTSwAD_FBgUOeTZ0hgKF1vvheTdmZnUESiFNdZcVsOfFPxTfdhK_x-mnS8mtPSildEjj99Amcv0-8SHFg3yuIADttQOB5Mmzuswkuu14Nu2eMCOtBqu/s320/vinyl+window+bag.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And then, I've still been crocheting up a wee storm -- making up chalkboard wipes for the wedding (which is right around the corner!) -- I am a sucker for little projects.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbGS69UKr_AA2qnTNDJ1Yi_wXZW-hpYsDZbYNPzLTrgpLLyWt84ebI7gof8ky2K8BewS4Z9WAF_7mNj1_DTEhbBXAmwFNlS6KjbAJ15tEEUEJw-giQsNdoHhG_R3nCL2-N4IWnP5swQawU/s1600/crochet+cloths.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbGS69UKr_AA2qnTNDJ1Yi_wXZW-hpYsDZbYNPzLTrgpLLyWt84ebI7gof8ky2K8BewS4Z9WAF_7mNj1_DTEhbBXAmwFNlS6KjbAJ15tEEUEJw-giQsNdoHhG_R3nCL2-N4IWnP5swQawU/s320/crochet+cloths.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course, my quilts in process collection would be a lot smaller if I was as big a fan of finishing large projects as I am of finishing the small. I'm putting that bit of truth into the "oh, well" column -- as Popeye would say, I am who I am. If I haven't managed to become a more perfect version of myself by now, it's just not going to happen. On the list of sins, I'm saying unfinished quilt projects is small potatoes. I still want to work at finishing them, but I've decided to give up feeling guilty about them.<br />
<br />
Am I the only one? How do you justify that unfinished pile?<br />

Such a sad tale it is. The room <i>looked</i> great -- but smelled BAD. Nasty and chemical and potent enough the room was unusable. And it continued to smell bad, as we continued to try and air it out. For months. We were convinced it was the new flooring. We eventually pulled out the flooring and . . . wait . . . what? . . . the room still smells?! Which left the only new element in the room as the paint. And after some research which suggested paint <i>can</i> go bad and, no, you can't just paint over it, my sewing room now looks like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIL0D3PLJgDybtlDTmeklCWletuv3F17tsJbmSceUBAZZeubMC-Gwr1m2oidtTsLj-PrPdoYEjbIMopZ2idchdyuDByH377wcZhs5VDRopJ0LaIDnIABSFQSScZeVuuPcjEZyEkzWVSnit/s1600/The+Room+That+Was.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIL0D3PLJgDybtlDTmeklCWletuv3F17tsJbmSceUBAZZeubMC-Gwr1m2oidtTsLj-PrPdoYEjbIMopZ2idchdyuDByH377wcZhs5VDRopJ0LaIDnIABSFQSScZeVuuPcjEZyEkzWVSnit/s320/The+Room+That+Was.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Yup. We're removing the dry wall. (That's the royal "we" -- my own true love gets to tackle this one.)<br />
<br />
This is what that corner looked like back when I was setting up the room after the redo:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-3TZ9TBoWf7QmeP0KpuxQ8o_QQVhF3TmbQYh2xlrxMR48W4VwKEMktOXgi9Wm5hwzjU5-DZbo0QZORgybgs4cQTA2f7lS6YDfJjdlxs40UjDBZCf0WIOgg44l8eMnV56xL-EdhhoiIr0o/s1600/2+sewing+room.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-3TZ9TBoWf7QmeP0KpuxQ8o_QQVhF3TmbQYh2xlrxMR48W4VwKEMktOXgi9Wm5hwzjU5-DZbo0QZORgybgs4cQTA2f7lS6YDfJjdlxs40UjDBZCf0WIOgg44l8eMnV56xL-EdhhoiIr0o/s320/2+sewing+room.jpg" width="260" /></a></div>
<br />
Such a sad story.<br />
<br />
But speaking of my own true love, he knows my being without a sewing room for the last five months has been wearing on me. He ever so generously offered to sacrifice out his game area (big board games) to allow me a place to set up while we continue to try and rescue the sewing room. So we did yet another shuffle on the sewing piles scattered around the downstairs and I now have this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivZCGU-2pNiBL3HQFyuWJggzYwb7wP_jppAbLHhmBZQOhIsovIm-JAIQaHvZwZImbBtVnaTCmGIRFq8tL53l2UeCBLqo1RR_d25dkFvjzdLC744wUCke7NR0qA8O6FmuLdYQzMfPNkUuqR/s1600/New+Room.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivZCGU-2pNiBL3HQFyuWJggzYwb7wP_jppAbLHhmBZQOhIsovIm-JAIQaHvZwZImbBtVnaTCmGIRFq8tL53l2UeCBLqo1RR_d25dkFvjzdLC744wUCke7NR0qA8O6FmuLdYQzMfPNkUuqR/s320/New+Room.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Yes! A working sewing space again! Bring it on! <br />
<br />
I finished the signature quilt for a friend.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGggBXpx8NGX3mvA2Z1gXcb5m-YU-3lWvPQnmSU6AGB4UIyfjJUb6Q_oSvgqf3LnDKb5bxKKjJDLL1-qEsT9rkq7LN1U_RhyphenhyphenhsNGaQKiXXoNVJR9w3IF9T3um8So_6kTankwYzCiPJG_Aq/s1600/Bev%2527s+Quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGggBXpx8NGX3mvA2Z1gXcb5m-YU-3lWvPQnmSU6AGB4UIyfjJUb6Q_oSvgqf3LnDKb5bxKKjJDLL1-qEsT9rkq7LN1U_RhyphenhyphenhsNGaQKiXXoNVJR9w3IF9T3um8So_6kTankwYzCiPJG_Aq/s320/Bev%2527s+Quilt.jpg" width="285" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
(Those are hubby's gnarly feet down there!)<br />
<br />
The GO! dies really came in handy on this one. I used the signature die for the signature patches, the 3" finished half-square triangle die to square the signatures, and the 2" strip die for the framing.<br />
<br />
And I'm back to working on the GO! Rag Circle denim quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJuqZzsbmX9LA2V4hsV5_FxPgtwyL1t2QRFxIlg_rWM_mlK_3op0CA0BhrwBH8uP8-bo6o__C7I-mikcsgoq_QvwYnWEx_K7oJNxC5tqqvwMZOAsov3zELc4ycdgcnlddRliZmX2VxcOqI/s1600/denim+rag+circles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJuqZzsbmX9LA2V4hsV5_FxPgtwyL1t2QRFxIlg_rWM_mlK_3op0CA0BhrwBH8uP8-bo6o__C7I-mikcsgoq_QvwYnWEx_K7oJNxC5tqqvwMZOAsov3zELc4ycdgcnlddRliZmX2VxcOqI/s320/denim+rag+circles.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So, that's where I'm at for the moment. I'd love to get back to my GO! Sew Challenge, but there are some other holdups still in the way. Meanwhile, I may not be on my personal challenge time, but the GO! is back to getting a workout.<br />
<br />
Yeah for sewing rooms! Thanks, honey! (So very many reasons to love that big-hearted guy.)<br />
<br />
I'm also getting some crochet in for our son's upcoming wedding: washcloths for the showers and wipe cloths for chalk boards. Aren't those colors bright and happy?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVlCjbO6NEow9o3Tr9MK4hGnMjzaCrGoDkhXbBVByZPbMwyWgFFd4hxU0SaJh3QSglzVCX3yfRHXyDImqe7rYCUMpH2a1fc8qMCl6c85NmguJlBhI2CKIESUfqBIvRnuyV2vkQ46UXq2vD/s1600/washcloths.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVlCjbO6NEow9o3Tr9MK4hGnMjzaCrGoDkhXbBVByZPbMwyWgFFd4hxU0SaJh3QSglzVCX3yfRHXyDImqe7rYCUMpH2a1fc8qMCl6c85NmguJlBhI2CKIESUfqBIvRnuyV2vkQ46UXq2vD/s320/washcloths.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
One of the things that pleases me is that, apparently, I have no ambition when it comes to crochet. With quilting I was all about learning new techniques and playing around to see how I could tweak them (which is how I came up with the variation on Fold and Sew that makes the miniature quilts). But with crochet? Nope. It seems I am perfectly happy to make washcloth after washcloth. I really like having this little side hobby where I feel absolutely no pressure to grow at all. It's a relief. <br />
<br />
Sometimes easy, mindless, and unchallenged is exactly where I want and need to be!<br />

Is this not wonderful?<br />
<br />

<br />
Oh, I love it! Thank you so much, Nancy!<br />
<br />
Here's a little close-up:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxfCZrzsbfiRIpIWYIdGqC9rXc8QZB2rJErp_TxHs70SN5ndGPayaaewhVPb5eRrfFnLa8T4rnMjSED3znEJP2lYLsxsxJVRdLGq3UlaZC5FTW7Ux5BGSvqhX27kskVeFl0EvHIvyeufN9/s1600/closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxfCZrzsbfiRIpIWYIdGqC9rXc8QZB2rJErp_TxHs70SN5ndGPayaaewhVPb5eRrfFnLa8T4rnMjSED3znEJP2lYLsxsxJVRdLGq3UlaZC5FTW7Ux5BGSvqhX27kskVeFl0EvHIvyeufN9/s320/closeup.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'll never get over my love of reproduction fabrics. Aren't they luscious?<br />
<br />
And as if that that lovely little quilt weren't enough, she also sent me a fabulous book.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5pRHkvc7jhvyVCb0MKoJ1wWhgwZOuuFYUP1oyBtEJpZMobZDTuSypcmt3VhdkEEkD7DTM6zWPOgK84P_-MW8uM9qmQV0CmG-LXJg4zmSWPT53E7Pyt1bpxvKtl-zdW-rVOgTRnefYtpSN/s1600/quilt+and+book.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5pRHkvc7jhvyVCb0MKoJ1wWhgwZOuuFYUP1oyBtEJpZMobZDTuSypcmt3VhdkEEkD7DTM6zWPOgK84P_-MW8uM9qmQV0CmG-LXJg4zmSWPT53E7Pyt1bpxvKtl-zdW-rVOgTRnefYtpSN/s320/quilt+and+book.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I love this book. There are just so many little quilts to admire, and more than a few to consider making up myself. I'm grading up a storm at the moment (in these final days of the semester), but grades go in next week, and then I see some serious sewing ahead!<br />
<br />
Thank you for the beauty of a quilt and lots of temptation!<br />
<br />
And for those of you wanting to see the swap quilts all together, head on over to <a href="http://humblequilts.blogspot.com/2016/05/celebrate-little-quilt-swap-linky-party.html" target="_blank">Humble Quilts</a> and enjoy the collection!Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-5366311082448775262016-04-14T19:57:00.000-06:002016-04-14T19:57:23.996-06:00One Thing Leads to AnotherWell, I started with the little squares I had cut from the leftover charms, and I made the little basket (which I forgot to take a picture of -- oops). And then I thought about using some of the squares I had left to make up a hot pad. Like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVuY0cAq1L-gXeY3e9wTNvsxfohTnV2WtC792r7RPo6286_IfrWnRUDD3QdZW60lEaCVE_K6aDwRo6IKNX0G3-J8-zZIsulNBIdrHOfb0sr4RHkPYDI6JjeBkr_c7fFzTIO8QIgG3F06aO/s1600/10+hot+pad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="292" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVuY0cAq1L-gXeY3e9wTNvsxfohTnV2WtC792r7RPo6286_IfrWnRUDD3QdZW60lEaCVE_K6aDwRo6IKNX0G3-J8-zZIsulNBIdrHOfb0sr4RHkPYDI6JjeBkr_c7fFzTIO8QIgG3F06aO/s320/10+hot+pad.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I took a bunch of photos and meant to write it up last weekend and then accidentally deleted the photos. (Oops, again!)<br />
<br />
So I made up another so I could take some photos.<br />
<br />
To begin, I once again used Pellon's 1" fusible grid interfacing. I cut 12 by 12 on the squares and then cut out a two inch square from each corner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF_Wkak5HgiaCZCE2ltx2xAUD9YFi9lAPUZ0AiKeGIQo_7F4v3Slwe7XdYMMpNI4F5kJ2DTPRGtoSJN_oWiJCyUl5RPnDJczjHD98IkRgs0cs_WJH17LgkUMVnKJqbmQZ9YZFxv9iYZq9k/s1600/1+grid+corner+cut+out.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF_Wkak5HgiaCZCE2ltx2xAUD9YFi9lAPUZ0AiKeGIQo_7F4v3Slwe7XdYMMpNI4F5kJ2DTPRGtoSJN_oWiJCyUl5RPnDJczjHD98IkRgs0cs_WJH17LgkUMVnKJqbmQZ9YZFxv9iYZq9k/s320/1+grid+corner+cut+out.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I laid out thirty-two 2" squares on the grid and pressed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgynkLqtbZzlueLZ732m3Zh2MKzY-prRjqk3C0v6rze7PONdvLrynNMZT37utT4gjzJdJ9OCc3YtG-3qLzLHjtfAud1ZalJ2kIkapM7nnGPL9qBq_PvpAOxZqPlCJrEmmSmFwAZNMWGDH0L/s1600/2+patches+down.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="301" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgynkLqtbZzlueLZ732m3Zh2MKzY-prRjqk3C0v6rze7PONdvLrynNMZT37utT4gjzJdJ9OCc3YtG-3qLzLHjtfAud1ZalJ2kIkapM7nnGPL9qBq_PvpAOxZqPlCJrEmmSmFwAZNMWGDH0L/s320/2+patches+down.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After folding over and sewing as usual, I made a small cut at the corners to meet the seam line.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuPSbTc1XHhoHR0en6eB6aFziz-AlGzdhdGi1KmCbMtOmhH8XJO-YL8EBT4lCenvtKAjhF8kdbyCY414iLvHMSeo9PySjD_tX0y2MK9EN7-hzovlTTrxB-fz7wbOMLXzdXFl1AMnG9xwJA/s1600/3+clip+to+seam+line.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="302" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuPSbTc1XHhoHR0en6eB6aFziz-AlGzdhdGi1KmCbMtOmhH8XJO-YL8EBT4lCenvtKAjhF8kdbyCY414iLvHMSeo9PySjD_tX0y2MK9EN7-hzovlTTrxB-fz7wbOMLXzdXFl1AMnG9xwJA/s320/3+clip+to+seam+line.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I also trimmed off a wee bit from the seam allowance.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwZe6N729tO9Rv4QSYGNMx3dkTF_wm512uje0Rc0ytRKVMvNHBmFo53_DKpKURpUUTgaA-yXst5yMQ0VYITg25bwvgH5usxdC5s1FMstxE_cftsjYlZBVr4sk-782wxtp4YjuYLjVvlyJI/s1600/4+trim+wee+bit+off+seam+allowance.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwZe6N729tO9Rv4QSYGNMx3dkTF_wm512uje0Rc0ytRKVMvNHBmFo53_DKpKURpUUTgaA-yXst5yMQ0VYITg25bwvgH5usxdC5s1FMstxE_cftsjYlZBVr4sk-782wxtp4YjuYLjVvlyJI/s320/4+trim+wee+bit+off+seam+allowance.jpg" width="283" /></a></div>
<br />
The little cut I made meant I could press open the seams at the cut-out corners as well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTsJ1w7z_RGjxBrA5YFksJpVnzjT3M3WrIrWBO6J9sV7XSvNhD3zIjnJ2hV6hy7qSVx7i-bPARqH23oE3wpsY-1hBAHLHN6iI-gsdPX467hHZMMKGJOdPnKS0f1cRuRmg_CbFSsuKFM7rD/s1600/5+seams+pressed+open.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTsJ1w7z_RGjxBrA5YFksJpVnzjT3M3WrIrWBO6J9sV7XSvNhD3zIjnJ2hV6hy7qSVx7i-bPARqH23oE3wpsY-1hBAHLHN6iI-gsdPX467hHZMMKGJOdPnKS0f1cRuRmg_CbFSsuKFM7rD/s320/5+seams+pressed+open.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Seams all sewn and pressed! So fast and easy. I love it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji76RtD8iNdlb_XmXjxAcmMwtzOYJGmzLHqzAziWgsJbXYAjrAVxznx7TSjx-BOoSSt88vcjFQG6cg50aGEGpdamTaksFehZwj58MWm-7KsLFDP7x0pJdk5yIFav4YdYgG1NxsZlD73RSY/s1600/6+all+seams+open+and+presed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="311" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji76RtD8iNdlb_XmXjxAcmMwtzOYJGmzLHqzAziWgsJbXYAjrAVxznx7TSjx-BOoSSt88vcjFQG6cg50aGEGpdamTaksFehZwj58MWm-7KsLFDP7x0pJdk5yIFav4YdYgG1NxsZlD73RSY/s320/6+all+seams+open+and+presed.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After I grabbed a bit of spare batting, I settled for some easy straight line quilting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9Oui7Mka7lkyZAWm40-q7ZRdPKjqlACzgvCwAyULlshJy4ds9E0yIzw7hG3CTrIvjRxdQQycDxPFhCrpsEGk-7R_GV_NPVR49JqpUJSWqRETQH55BKwB05DJC2fV_ptCmiEebS-IMXzlU/s1600/7+quilt+as+desired.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="291" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9Oui7Mka7lkyZAWm40-q7ZRdPKjqlACzgvCwAyULlshJy4ds9E0yIzw7hG3CTrIvjRxdQQycDxPFhCrpsEGk-7R_GV_NPVR49JqpUJSWqRETQH55BKwB05DJC2fV_ptCmiEebS-IMXzlU/s320/7+quilt+as+desired.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I used the AccuQuilt GO! 8" circle die to cut out the hot pad circles-- the cross lines make it easy to center the patchwork.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPMeWwPcp6ZLtrzbvRs0Ib7fZmKL3W7_U4eFICa0a130jvqXSdOb6CpsZW5p03ncCRUqnXBkw-j9AbJswz0sYKlwEEiqbTU56R9l4MPMwC7Ja-2fE_8GRbLcfZIhzCuqUOKVxmuJilGD4P/s1600/8+marked+die.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="283" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPMeWwPcp6ZLtrzbvRs0Ib7fZmKL3W7_U4eFICa0a130jvqXSdOb6CpsZW5p03ncCRUqnXBkw-j9AbJswz0sYKlwEEiqbTU56R9l4MPMwC7Ja-2fE_8GRbLcfZIhzCuqUOKVxmuJilGD4P/s320/8+marked+die.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So I ran the pieced and quilted section thru, and then a little Insul-Bright, a backing piece, and another piece of batting. Easy peasy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTtPT4EahHz7Nj-FYQn2lt8iQffi9nuwvsKKhtDTRy6oH_BWyr8DUyqbul2mYWmJKrIaOYNVFQNSEJE2Zhyphenhyphenh9FkWuuR6eNIsLEu6DnVUznm_tlEeHrP7pAeIopMGObkzWEowbgEheOAe_6/s1600/11+a+set+to+be.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTtPT4EahHz7Nj-FYQn2lt8iQffi9nuwvsKKhtDTRy6oH_BWyr8DUyqbul2mYWmJKrIaOYNVFQNSEJE2Zhyphenhyphenh9FkWuuR6eNIsLEu6DnVUznm_tlEeHrP7pAeIopMGObkzWEowbgEheOAe_6/s320/11+a+set+to+be.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So, it may have taken be a little longer to get there, but this little duo accounts for my GO! Sew Challenge for last week <i>and</i> this week. Whew. That's good, because this quilter just had a very nasty bout of food poisoning, or maybe the flu, and I am wrung out. Writing this up is the only thing I've accomplished all day. I could use better photos or perhaps more time in Photoshop but, hey, sometimes good enough is good enough, right?<br />
<br />
And, as Scarlett said, Tomorrow is another day!Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-48228333822034937752016-04-03T12:13:00.001-06:002016-04-03T12:13:41.999-06:00Gotta Sew!Gotta sew! -- despite sewing room challenges. I've staged a coup on the dining room table. So progress IS being made. For one, I managed to sew all the GO! Tumbler rows together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyKAv-P59GWZTInNuqKnB64VB3ySpX_Em30iqBui2NgcSSxetaaobgCTNPbldPmIn8VAxfoxwkzbrs1NQiQtVnsUOR2z5VE1l3r800Gu2b2EbOzBE8-HIZZpuraRc_JJX2Djb7Xz2GqYgT/s1600/GO%2521+Tumblers+in+Process.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="253" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyKAv-P59GWZTInNuqKnB64VB3ySpX_Em30iqBui2NgcSSxetaaobgCTNPbldPmIn8VAxfoxwkzbrs1NQiQtVnsUOR2z5VE1l3r800Gu2b2EbOzBE8-HIZZpuraRc_JJX2Djb7Xz2GqYgT/s320/GO%2521+Tumblers+in+Process.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Isn't that pretty? Having got it to this stage though, I'm pretty sure I need to add one or two more rows. From this angle it looks plenty long, but that's my camera skills for you. When I hold it up, I can see it needs to be a little longer. It's destined to be a lap quilt that a guy could use -- so while it is plenty long enough for little ol' height-challenged me, it's not long enough for the male contingent. Perhaps by next weekend it will be ready for borders.<br />
<br />
I sewed up <a href="http://civilwarquilts.blogspot.com/2016/03/westering-women-block-3-sweet-gum-leaf.html" target="_blank">the latest Westering Women block</a> from Barbara Brackman. Was I the only quilter to find this block an absolute pain in the neck to sew? My inset seam skills abandoned me. I am afraid I periodically used language unbecoming a gentlewoman and scholar. Still, the block did come out to size in the end. (That had quite a bit to do with a hot iron, steam, elbow grease and determination.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwiZJAc4zeVcV9UiCCAk2oA90s76ahM8YnDXw5g6TYD3MU3cmv1_or1b_mzwgtogYw41Enzco4BNuLhIbidIBm-n8tlU2yEDfhkc9c0Lx1tRXEKel4cGuyzf2vmO1fehy8mq_ctsEEqA7j/s1600/Sweet+Gum+Leaf+Block.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwiZJAc4zeVcV9UiCCAk2oA90s76ahM8YnDXw5g6TYD3MU3cmv1_or1b_mzwgtogYw41Enzco4BNuLhIbidIBm-n8tlU2yEDfhkc9c0Lx1tRXEKel4cGuyzf2vmO1fehy8mq_ctsEEqA7j/s320/Sweet+Gum+Leaf+Block.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
And there's some more GO! work ahead. For one, it's never too early to start holiday sewing, is it? This year I'm making up some little baskets using Pink Penguin's <a href="http://ayumills.blogspot.com/2008/05/tutorial-fabric-basket.html" target="_blank">basket tutorial</a>. It's a good use of leftover charms, for one. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioEK7fE1IEv0N0H1ZckFRnDV4gHYIsdO97mPKUUuarw0DtMBKJh0CjciN7l3lFs-PxN105GaIYoM2pbSgnc-LiaSADnQS_FM-zfNiqYi8MPjKvt1ruVr3SmNZMRtRgo0yq56TI-r8vI6jc/s1600/charm+pack+leftovers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="192" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioEK7fE1IEv0N0H1ZckFRnDV4gHYIsdO97mPKUUuarw0DtMBKJh0CjciN7l3lFs-PxN105GaIYoM2pbSgnc-LiaSADnQS_FM-zfNiqYi8MPjKvt1ruVr3SmNZMRtRgo0yq56TI-r8vI6jc/s320/charm+pack+leftovers.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The basket pattern calls for 2" squares and I have a 2" GO! die, so that's perfect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioWBkMLrvM241z8Dulj3P86ePy9wGq7v1DKEC5r5KCnmpjs1MBYb6c-cR1GHKqf04bGG-DKAkuCs5IDYrGNeJqNZybgnVnHTD8dsMKApioW86EPdAwuE58ohz0IhGVUnOgIgCw_YSnH38s/s1600/GO+2+inch+square+die.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="244" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioWBkMLrvM241z8Dulj3P86ePy9wGq7v1DKEC5r5KCnmpjs1MBYb6c-cR1GHKqf04bGG-DKAkuCs5IDYrGNeJqNZybgnVnHTD8dsMKApioW86EPdAwuE58ohz0IhGVUnOgIgCw_YSnH38s/s320/GO+2+inch+square+die.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
A few years ago, I gave myself a GO! Challenge to use the 2" inch die and cut up charms into entirely useable pieces. You can see the results of that <a href="http://terriesandelin.blogspot.com/2011/09/go-halloween.html" target="_blank">here</a>. This time I wasn't aiming to be that frugal. I was entirely fine with just getting four 2" squares per charm.<br />

<br />
A few passes through the GO! and I've got a happy little assortment to play with.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAVEihsMiKS_mGixb32yXrZs4VKp5NTsijMUqRdpSyF-3ZCJYuQfB_EN-ngriiPKEJBOENFkKYCw-MmAtpovzqMJxTnf7vQgySuZcDP5fzFNelLvEAG3u5stsZlxAKuJ6DFlJI_iemJiUa/s1600/2+inch+squares.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="216" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAVEihsMiKS_mGixb32yXrZs4VKp5NTsijMUqRdpSyF-3ZCJYuQfB_EN-ngriiPKEJBOENFkKYCw-MmAtpovzqMJxTnf7vQgySuZcDP5fzFNelLvEAG3u5stsZlxAKuJ6DFlJI_iemJiUa/s320/2+inch+squares.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
When I make up the basket pattern, I like to use Pellon's Fusible 1" grid. It speeds up the sewing process and gives the basket a little extra body as well. Here it is with the first set of seams sewn. (I created a couple tutorials on using the Pellon grid that you can find <a href="http://terriesandelin.blogspot.com/2011/03/table-mat-tutorial.html" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://terriesandelin.blogspot.com/2011/02/patchwork-zipper-bag-tutorial-part-one.html" target="_blank">here</a>.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSr1jvy0emM12LbMGffyM5a38TASDI4HHhDbZlGTaIuZbcRfS6IMQ6AlmH0qs8pBHUQlz0nuu_zuncN7YbEanWGN2rBwIEM46WRZqUjCnVuMTxCyfDeesssl-K9wcgCdrn7YasmrCIzMzQ/s1600/Pellon+grid+in+process.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSr1jvy0emM12LbMGffyM5a38TASDI4HHhDbZlGTaIuZbcRfS6IMQ6AlmH0qs8pBHUQlz0nuu_zuncN7YbEanWGN2rBwIEM46WRZqUjCnVuMTxCyfDeesssl-K9wcgCdrn7YasmrCIzMzQ/s320/Pellon+grid+in+process.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And in no time I've got the two patched sets I need for a basket. So cute!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyiwt1qC14T2gzCICEvZ1gYwpQYnHqdO2TSd5SS2AfcI_3L859YBHLcrFZEq3AlR91fAJXWtKdU59t_1JgTt-4QYPRCL5THQc53PZWQJbNHHSPObWzTHWrPvruGf8xSo_TCxv0nG8GBir1/s1600/basket+squares+sewn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="304" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyiwt1qC14T2gzCICEvZ1gYwpQYnHqdO2TSd5SS2AfcI_3L859YBHLcrFZEq3AlR91fAJXWtKdU59t_1JgTt-4QYPRCL5THQc53PZWQJbNHHSPObWzTHWrPvruGf8xSo_TCxv0nG8GBir1/s320/basket+squares+sewn.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And there's lots more to keep me busy this coming week. GO! Sew indeed.<br />

WorkoutWhen I think of things I'm grateful for, that I picked up quilting as my hobby of choice always makes the list. It's brought me good times, helped me through hard times, and invited the friendship of wonderful women into my life. I love, too, how quilting lets us bring gifts to others as well. A friend is fighting cancer and so I've been collecting well wishes from co-workers. This weekend it's been all about sewing up those blocks. (I whited out the names to protect people's privacy).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYNfZqpQrP3xxYa81Pv3-aJlKF6gFdWhjIzBsIm4VHhILjaMQ3jGVl-qFAZ6t31QTY5NuwcE4M6xSLEWktCZ6w7FN-_kbBZeIUhNz4KBfitkeRSXf-gW4I8g87BBqi32OI_Bo0u9i5hAm1/s1600/Signature+Blocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYNfZqpQrP3xxYa81Pv3-aJlKF6gFdWhjIzBsIm4VHhILjaMQ3jGVl-qFAZ6t31QTY5NuwcE4M6xSLEWktCZ6w7FN-_kbBZeIUhNz4KBfitkeRSXf-gW4I8g87BBqi32OI_Bo0u9i5hAm1/s320/Signature+Blocks.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
These have been great blocks for my leaders and enders tumbler project. Wow, have I made progress this weekend!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhChAyeBM-gI5jczGfo4vYLSBuxwtUB34YXC2nTaimdD6QoCymDynnyRW2pRw_tJ4n_56Gzu9WIlUKfYzvddoOn_nq4KvfIEZ2PNhntsHZtmNqagyCZc9Ge5oa21I_7tkbR6Z-y53al7UY8/s1600/tumblers+are+us.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhChAyeBM-gI5jczGfo4vYLSBuxwtUB34YXC2nTaimdD6QoCymDynnyRW2pRw_tJ4n_56Gzu9WIlUKfYzvddoOn_nq4KvfIEZ2PNhntsHZtmNqagyCZc9Ge5oa21I_7tkbR6Z-y53al7UY8/s320/tumblers+are+us.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
They may not look like much all neatly folded up (there's some more strips out of the camera image as well), but I have the rows for the lap quilt nearly all finished. Just a few more patches to add and then I'll be joining the rows together. I'm excited about that -- all part of my current need to finish the old as well as start the new.<br />
<br />
The working dies for this week:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC6XOLxZvfhOdbEwpB94Nbh0BsATd1GTGKhfgxvzRIha-cPPPEYuq8uAOKU0np3m4F8YXIoqfEEKqbhyQbS80SqFShLabTA-waEbJQHMzbn9TdHJZYTVhcmsKcVS0e2NgDmGf5tGcZm8xx/s1600/the+dies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="234" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC6XOLxZvfhOdbEwpB94Nbh0BsATd1GTGKhfgxvzRIha-cPPPEYuq8uAOKU0np3m4F8YXIoqfEEKqbhyQbS80SqFShLabTA-waEbJQHMzbn9TdHJZYTVhcmsKcVS0e2NgDmGf5tGcZm8xx/s320/the+dies.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I love when dies play well together -- like how the 3" finished half square triangles line up so perfectly with the signature die.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilVDu57OsCSE1KhUlOHcmnFJJRKT1aPrRsryU4v435_AF6fg889xE85a6BXAjbxaVjPv33FH01OUl6VtEdV4qFDEi6onCkzpgC-hXmqEsCEZfuz7nKM3_BbOZTh4Md1mXz6oMKdm2PE3Hh/s1600/signature+patch+and+triangle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="151" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilVDu57OsCSE1KhUlOHcmnFJJRKT1aPrRsryU4v435_AF6fg889xE85a6BXAjbxaVjPv33FH01OUl6VtEdV4qFDEi6onCkzpgC-hXmqEsCEZfuz7nKM3_BbOZTh4Md1mXz6oMKdm2PE3Hh/s320/signature+patch+and+triangle.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And there is a new <i>Big</i> gadget in my sewing room!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgULuivY-yCUUeHpu5wxz-SLHsBCfSv9go9rbvlURoV3WY87cQGiaHEi6Yn-r9Yo-WyJlCo5Lo8DocHPjYOqHPUv0aG7HwYJ-OgBP5cJYx-Ds6EzPCsYbe8-k2uEDJGvh_eGomYWsfjxwsK/s1600/GO%2521+Be+Indulgent.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgULuivY-yCUUeHpu5wxz-SLHsBCfSv9go9rbvlURoV3WY87cQGiaHEi6Yn-r9Yo-WyJlCo5Lo8DocHPjYOqHPUv0aG7HwYJ-OgBP5cJYx-Ds6EzPCsYbe8-k2uEDJGvh_eGomYWsfjxwsK/s320/GO%2521+Be+Indulgent.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
That was an indulgence that nearly had me hyper-ventilating before I clicked purchase. Though there is at least some reason to the madness. My doctor has a habit of starting sentences with "Well, at <i>your</i> age . . . ." And what being an old gray mare of my age means is that those repetitive stress injuries are way too easy to come by. I can feel it on occasion when I'm doing a lot of GO! work -- cranking that handle again and again. I feel it with rotary cutting as well. My elbow and shoulder just ain't what they used to be. So I'm hoping the GO! Big can keep me quilting away with a little less wear and tear, since I <i>am</i> a woman of a certain age (and then some).Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-41998307152209260132016-03-20T15:04:00.000-06:002016-03-20T15:04:53.306-06:00Two Colors, Too FunIt's been a good week. To begin, I finished the miniature blue and white quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy8RhJ7xvFKOPUyH2NotamNkIrpE2a8Y5KMWTyXKzemtkcdeOZ8wjkBAv2QA6hB7SLlXxGSn6t-RzxYAOVANipWfeJn2uAwupbB5jsCgV6fiGUDaTJyuwSqM72BPMkgHJX6RtD4Uu__p8N/s1600/Miniature+Quilt+Stripes+and+Checks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy8RhJ7xvFKOPUyH2NotamNkIrpE2a8Y5KMWTyXKzemtkcdeOZ8wjkBAv2QA6hB7SLlXxGSn6t-RzxYAOVANipWfeJn2uAwupbB5jsCgV6fiGUDaTJyuwSqM72BPMkgHJX6RtD4Uu__p8N/s320/Miniature+Quilt+Stripes+and+Checks.jpg" width="317" /></a></div>
<br />
I am so happy with how that came out. I'm really loving that I hand quilted it. So sweet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5UWKEOODfSAmpnETtkTkYE3dxdkQpeGtgT8Bme_dLuvGPNl6Bl775iJrc7Q0kBHrU1aNnabsq6_xSXvx6_cpmTgL_Jsb86YZQWUKrKS4kTaY-31nyIM1iR3ndmtRaOIVxSxSkZerXL0hC/s1600/Stripes+and+Checks+Closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5UWKEOODfSAmpnETtkTkYE3dxdkQpeGtgT8Bme_dLuvGPNl6Bl775iJrc7Q0kBHrU1aNnabsq6_xSXvx6_cpmTgL_Jsb86YZQWUKrKS4kTaY-31nyIM1iR3ndmtRaOIVxSxSkZerXL0hC/s320/Stripes+and+Checks+Closeup.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And I made progress on the next red and white. I'll probably branch out with my red and white minis, but to start, I'm pulling patterns from <a href="http://terriesandelin.blogspot.com/2015/10/miniatures-in-minutes.html" target="_blank">Miniatures in Minutes</a>. This next one is the Everlasting Tree foundation. The red and white print-out is my EQ mock-up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRz707FeEU707fKK92M13VZeO4N9xOzvb96N6t_-caAlapuO2p_4V7w_DHvA7zai2AGUZrocRdx5sLUdgzBjULA0U8JuCWWPLneoy_QWx8aetCV03Bm7aJVIrTw7xquESSlpp1iU5rtd5_/s1600/everlasting+tree+book+and+foundation.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRz707FeEU707fKK92M13VZeO4N9xOzvb96N6t_-caAlapuO2p_4V7w_DHvA7zai2AGUZrocRdx5sLUdgzBjULA0U8JuCWWPLneoy_QWx8aetCV03Bm7aJVIrTw7xquESSlpp1iU5rtd5_/s320/everlasting+tree+book+and+foundation.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And here it is with the top sewn up. White fabric. White snow.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7I4TlHSZoUcRxrFRxjNmXHwbMl0Fkd8zdHFGroDIGvnTj5JnLjhx7NPOEnSmMe8YQRqRjBZQdyfX5Nz-R8JS18r6KIQJLV7adq0GYTITZctH-z1KRfiSPQVFzKWAyLMA6Bci8zuOeXbce/s1600/Miniature+Quilt+Everlasting+Tree+Top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="263" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7I4TlHSZoUcRxrFRxjNmXHwbMl0Fkd8zdHFGroDIGvnTj5JnLjhx7NPOEnSmMe8YQRqRjBZQdyfX5Nz-R8JS18r6KIQJLV7adq0GYTITZctH-z1KRfiSPQVFzKWAyLMA6Bci8zuOeXbce/s320/Miniature+Quilt+Everlasting+Tree+Top.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I think I'll probably machine quilt this one. I seem to be on a mission to begin anew <i>and</i> finish the old, so the little pincushion below is the finish of a little five by five block I had sewn up quite a while ago.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCNSiKMOQ-UrdbGydLcz6Ujq7rSsl320r2OlBOEqxDipSs2OfnsA0B30DpAQOEnZDPCFL6kkGoB9LoAYaRaEZCkqexpkK_5XBg4GUhc0-vETymLQmAy-9o_6Po0Qgm_770-f_gmwXD-_v0/s1600/Red+and+White+Pincushion.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="268" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCNSiKMOQ-UrdbGydLcz6Ujq7rSsl320r2OlBOEqxDipSs2OfnsA0B30DpAQOEnZDPCFL6kkGoB9LoAYaRaEZCkqexpkK_5XBg4GUhc0-vETymLQmAy-9o_6Po0Qgm_770-f_gmwXD-_v0/s320/Red+and+White+Pincushion.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And with all the red and white going on, I decided it was finally time to order <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Red-White-Quilts-Infinite-Presented/dp/0847846520/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1458507083&sr=1-1&keywords=infinite+variety+red+and+white+quilts" target="_blank">Infinite Variety</a>. It came this last week. Oh, those quilts. Be still my heart! And look, here's a red and white version of the blue and white mini quilt I showed up above:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8tmjvCYrGpWIby05mw0tEzjP7_rJXuTtvA4VaQxMC2FicLIBTUUwY9wtCAtCtJ6YgxJFS-FRvRB_xjg6sfCfmQZZgOgTUyAQAGtzzdVGcJA6pl60_Gy54n2eHiKPeG1A6gMT8bzJKMpSn/s1600/Vintage+Red+and+White+Quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8tmjvCYrGpWIby05mw0tEzjP7_rJXuTtvA4VaQxMC2FicLIBTUUwY9wtCAtCtJ6YgxJFS-FRvRB_xjg6sfCfmQZZgOgTUyAQAGtzzdVGcJA6pl60_Gy54n2eHiKPeG1A6gMT8bzJKMpSn/s320/Vintage+Red+and+White+Quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm pretty sure I'll need a red and white version of my own! I was playing with this design in EQ and wanted to see if I could work a two-color with triangles in the larger squares. This is what I came up with:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC4mzqsB5J0NpcUdoIpzawgVF91HfKSMEm0KqJBLjIsCxy4dkbJfqG-dcHr0WtgWxoRYiuXVSH-A12cVeyHlK9Mr_x809wfgzAWqgAukesSWvOa17pMkcKD2lMiCQo4JgKl7PoNNnOGTHT/s1600/red+and+white+stripes+checks+and+triangles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC4mzqsB5J0NpcUdoIpzawgVF91HfKSMEm0KqJBLjIsCxy4dkbJfqG-dcHr0WtgWxoRYiuXVSH-A12cVeyHlK9Mr_x809wfgzAWqgAukesSWvOa17pMkcKD2lMiCQo4JgKl7PoNNnOGTHT/s320/red+and+white+stripes+checks+and+triangles.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I like that quite a lot. And then, what should I see as I was browsing <i>Infinite Variety</i>, but this variation:<br />

I love that as I play with quilt design, I'm just following the footsteps of all those quilters who came before. It really is a living tradition.<br />
<br />
And because I need to show I haven't forgotten about the GO! Sew Challenge, I have to say my tumbler die has been getting a work out this last week. I've been cutting new and sewing the old. This is only part of the show:<br />
<br />

Every bit of progress counts! I do LOVE to start new quilts, but it sure is satisfying to work on the older projects and see them move closer to completion. I have so many unfinished projects, they feel like a burden or a weight of guilt. Working on them definitely helps get rid of that bit of unnecessary emotional baggage. And besides, pretty fabrics, pretty quilts!Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1727832083574230005.post-71175449493968068612016-03-12T14:04:00.000-07:002016-03-12T14:04:50.258-07:00What's GO!ing On?I'm still following my GO! Sew Challenge and this week the GO! has been getting a workout. First off, I finished the little red and white 13-Square miniature quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibZyLVAAUXIgOzxv8ZKpvGcni7EiNz_RDkxceMoP3Tsm164AIhUuU6cofygMwwGH0xwEJdc-el8_9xwAoVoVuqTpZOpj3v9b6AtTiYvmsaWa9K-y1yRKHnwlPHSpdHplh2UbNhX38QinE6/s1600/02+Red+and+White+13+Square+Miniature+Quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="303" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibZyLVAAUXIgOzxv8ZKpvGcni7EiNz_RDkxceMoP3Tsm164AIhUuU6cofygMwwGH0xwEJdc-el8_9xwAoVoVuqTpZOpj3v9b6AtTiYvmsaWa9K-y1yRKHnwlPHSpdHplh2UbNhX38QinE6/s320/02+Red+and+White+13+Square+Miniature+Quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The GO! has been busy cutting signature patches for a quilt I'll be making for a friend.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibc09-lDttmhrNA-Evu-Sp9L_VFsrhwOUqL_azb4A96scuB8P4VkEOk6AIT35MoT9qaFJ9VfAGW7-yF5WiocM2lN8V9kswIK8EJMAtc-VJ2pWiDUDJN_BYjghll0EkhLqmIn9UPT8Slhgg/s1600/03+signature+patches.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="244" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibc09-lDttmhrNA-Evu-Sp9L_VFsrhwOUqL_azb4A96scuB8P4VkEOk6AIT35MoT9qaFJ9VfAGW7-yF5WiocM2lN8V9kswIK8EJMAtc-VJ2pWiDUDJN_BYjghll0EkhLqmIn9UPT8Slhgg/s320/03+signature+patches.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And there's some bright and cheerful tumbler patches coming along, too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5XcB1fK9LHgQm5K8nG3Jio9U_TgyEYwdODyZnSqJi94nO3qGfDs3jw1LoOPzXBB7S8df05UJ09xkxTeAp6tholRUFmzM0KHeeOXtx63UBEIn_mYqm1dDir57SVadvEkqHyW4eqjoR-d7s/s1600/04+Tumbler+patches.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5XcB1fK9LHgQm5K8nG3Jio9U_TgyEYwdODyZnSqJi94nO3qGfDs3jw1LoOPzXBB7S8df05UJ09xkxTeAp6tholRUFmzM0KHeeOXtx63UBEIn_mYqm1dDir57SVadvEkqHyW4eqjoR-d7s/s320/04+Tumbler+patches.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And it's March, which means it's time, of course, to bring out the miniature Irish Chain quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKqldowKQ6MNb0P3WUDgwz2oFLsoEipF1YI0kjmjkoPWU4kR-uuQUfndNpFMJGxkwylGy124dRiZ-B-fDE7j4E6KGwrtzYJs9L8jSLi2sfzFjENYf7_ZU8Rj24XOfVPiHY92pOVAV7LucI/s1600/06+Miniature+Irish+Chain+Quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="303" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKqldowKQ6MNb0P3WUDgwz2oFLsoEipF1YI0kjmjkoPWU4kR-uuQUfndNpFMJGxkwylGy124dRiZ-B-fDE7j4E6KGwrtzYJs9L8jSLi2sfzFjENYf7_ZU8Rj24XOfVPiHY92pOVAV7LucI/s320/06+Miniature+Irish+Chain+Quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I wrote about this quilt ages ago -- about my Irish roots <a href="http://terriesandelin.blogspot.com/2010/02/little-irish-love.html" target="_blank">here</a>, and how I used the 13-Square foundation from <a href="http://terriesandelin.blogspot.com/2015/10/miniatures-in-minutes.html" target="_blank">Miniatures in Minutes</a> (the same one as the red and white quilt above) <a href="http://terriesandelin.blogspot.com/2010/02/nine-patch-fun.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
And now that I've finished one red and white miniature, I'm pondering which one will come next. Let's hear it for Spring Break!Terrie Sandelinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15059022710352529519noreply@blogger.com2
