Crazy Quilt Blocks

I’m finally caught up with my swaps (whew!)  Here’s the crazy quilt blocks for Jean.  She sent the fabric and a couple bits of ribbon.  I added in some scraps of old lace I had tucked away.  Here’s the first one.  For this block all the patch shapes were already drawn on the paper foundation.  Nice balance.

For the second block, the paper was blank and I only had the scraps of fabric left from the first block to work with.  Free design?  I worried I was going to sew myself into a corner.

Sure enough.  I did.  Half way through I stopped sewing on the foundation and sewed patches together that I then added to the foundation.  Hmmm.  I am so going to understand if Jean decides the better path of wisdom is to not use this block!

I don’t do much in the way of crazy quilting (which is probably all too obvious), but I did do this purse many moons ago.

My in-laws were celebrating their 5oth anniversary and therefore I was going to do something that I very rarely do – dress up.  I decided I needed a nifty little bag and this is what I came up with.  Here it is from the back.

I hardly ever use it, but I keep it on my dresser where I can see it (that is, ahem, when  clothes  piled on top of the dresser don’t obscure it).  It still makes me happy just to look at it.  I love those rich dark colors!
