All Sewn Up Giveaway

6a010536f8e72a970c01157062457c970b-800wi

I’m new to blog land but it doesn’t take long to realize that one of the fun bits is all the giveaways.  I had so much fun with the last giveaway, I definitely want to get in on this one, too!  So, I’m giving a way of copy of  Miniatures in Minutes and a charm pack of 99 batiks cut into 5 inch squares.

“Charmed to Greet You,” the tumbler charm quilt project in the book, uses 99 patches.

Frankly, if I cut the squares only 2 1/2 inches square, they would still be bigger than you need for the pattern.  (The pieced foundation section of the quilt finishes at 7 inches square).  But, on the theory some of you might want your batik charms for something other than a miniature (really?  you would?), I went ahead and cut them 5” square.  My love of batiks goes way back so a lot of these batiks have been out of the stores for years.  They have all been washed.

In order to be eligible for the giveaway, browse my blog and leave a comment on this blog entry that responds to something you’ve seen here.  Monday evening I’ll randomly draw a name.  Meanwhile, check out the Sewn website and check out all the giveways.  And hang on for the launch because this looks like its going to be a very exciting site!

  1. I love your mini tumbler quilt. I have never made a mini, but we recently bought a travel trailer and I've been giving a lot of thought to making one to hang in it.

  2. I really enjoyed your post about Remembrance. My dad also had Alzheimers and I took care of him because my mom had passed away a long time ago. My mom and dad had one of those enduring loves also and even though she had been gone for more than 20 years, he still kept her photo out in the living room because he still loved her so much.
I would love to win your giveaway because I would like to try to make a mini quilt. Thanks for the opportunity.

  3. REMEMBRANCE: What a beautiful and well written post. Thank you so much for sharing this story. I have an aunt with Alzheimer’s and her husband takes such great care of her. They are raising their two very young grandchildren and the strength he has and love he shows while taking care of his wife and grandchildren are amazing. Here is to real love and real people in our grand world.

My aunt with Alzheimer’s was my favorite family member while I was growing up and I spent every summer and vacation with her.

She amazed me as a child, and I love her so much.

  4. I think this give away is absolutely perfect. I have been wanting to start doing miniatures for a long time. That book is amazing and how great to have some batiks to start with.
The think I learned from your blog is your suggestions on how to use miniature quilts including the great way you enhanced the wristlets.

The tumbler quilt is very striking.

  6. I think it is really awesome you made a quilt for the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative. It is so sad for families when someone suffers from Alzheimers.

  8. You posted in April about a mini quilt you were working on, and I loved seeing the entire process; computer design, cut pieces, tentatively laid out, etc. I love seeing more than just a finished quilt! You are very generous with your giveaway and I will be crossing my fingers. I am participating in a virtual quilting bee and am looking forward to the opportunity to trying miniatures with the blocks I create for my new quilting friends. Thanks for the chance at winning!

  9. Batiks are the absolute BEST! I collect toy sewing machines and really want to make some minatures to display with them. You have shared many inspiring quilts, I LOVE the one on the cover of Miniatures in Minutes.

  10. The post you had about the quilt you worked on while your dad was ill and after his death was very touching. I've already gone through the morbid question of what I would save if we had a fire....it would be my grandmother's quilt. I hardly knew her since we lived so far away from each other and she died when I was 7, but I love that quilt. It is full of 30's 40's and is an orange peel pattern. I'd choose that quilt over even all the family pictures...terrible but true!

  15. Glad to see you are getting into blogging! The offer of your book is just great.

I enjoyed reading your post on "The kindness of Strangers." Since I live north of Pittsburgh, it was nice to hear something good about the area and see someone who looked at this old city with some kindness of her own.

  17. i love batiks and tend to sew with these a lot. I also really liked the because R is for red quilt. I like the idea of sewing minitures because I am not the fastest quilter and this gives me a way to make more quilts.

  19. I loved the story of your first quilt, and all the "newbie mistakes" you made. I'm making them right now. I recently finished piecing my first quilt top. Since I started it 10 years ago, I drew the 4" squares on the back of my fabric with pencil and cut everything out with whatever scissors I could find. Seam allowance, whatever! Pressing seams open-forget it! So, now that the top is done, I'm still waffling about doing the actual quilting and binding. Gotta get to it sometime.
My quilting life would have been so much easier if I'd known about charm packs 10 years ago.

  26. Posts like yours about the kindness of strangers helps me have a little more faith in people and their intentions and just mankind in general. If I won this generous giveaway I would definitely have to make the quilt pictured but also that gorgeous linen and batik wristlet you did using the OhFransson pattern. So gorgeous.

  27. Hi Terrie, thanks for this great giveaway...I love batik so much. I liked your idea for the pie quilt! I'm absolutely hopeless at curved seams, though. I just can't get the concept of how to do it into my head - I'm too visual and probably need to watch someone doing it 1000 times before I get it!

  28. i really loved the black wristlet with the rainbow squares, it just popped!

and since the foundation came from Miniatures in Minutes, it seems fitting that it would be my favourite post!

  32. I love the red and white mini quilt from April 29. Such a classic ombination and so well executed by you.

I love making minature and mini quilts. I am working on my guilds yearly challenge quilt right now, the rules are it has to be exactly 30" square with no block larger than 4". The fabric we received are purples. I am having so much fun doing little sampler blocks by hand.

  36. Great giveaway! I am so excited for Sewn!
I really enjoyed your blog post about what to do with miniature quilts. I adore minis, but have also found myself wanting for an actual PURPOSE for them (aside from just gazing at their adorable beauty). Journal covers and tote bags are brilliant uses for these bits of textile art!

  41. What a great give-away! I've always wanted to do a charm quilt. Love the idea of using batiks that are no longer in print. My father too is suffering from the beginnings of dementia. It's hard to watch our loved ones regress. My Dad is very content and happy. We've had to learn to just accept him as he is and give him love at whatever stage we find him. Thanks for participating in the Sewn give-away. You might like to enter my give-away, too!

  45. First of all, I've bookmarked your blog because I will be back! You have a lovely way of writing. Your posts on the quilt you made in honor of your FIL and the one you made while your dad was dying both made me cry! And your Kaffe "moment" cracked me up :-) So I want to come back when I have more time to visit!

I love batiks as well. I have a few but would love to win this wonderful giveaway!!!

I would not be using it for a miniature. I am not patient enough or skilled enough to work in miniature :-) But I do have some ideas of what I'd do with it!

  46. Wow all your work is so neat, I really love those mini's, I will have to be more precise before i have a go at those.

  55. I agree, blogging is fun, and giveaways are so exciting. I was introduced to your blog during the Sew Mama Sew giveaways. Since then, I've enjoyed your remembrance mini quilt and story, and I loved how humorously you related hurting your leg. (Ouch!)

This giveaway would be so fun to win. Thanks so much for the chance!

  56. First of all, I love the black and white photo of you! I have one of myself that has a surprisingly similar hairdo! In your post "she sews" that little circle block looks hard! I love all the little blocks furthur down-each one is so darling! This is going to be a neat quilt when you are done! Are you going to post pictures of the finished product? And I also found the giveaway here, so I'm excited about that too!

  57. Hi Terrie

I, too, found you via the SMS giveaway. I noticed how fab your linen and rainbow wallet was and happily entered. After the event I revisited to look at your other projects and read your archive, that's when I realised that far from making your wallet from a project in a book... you wrote the book! How cool. And in reading your blog, you come across as such a real person, I enjoyed your story about all the feelings you had going to quilt market. Thanks for sharing!

I really hope I win this giveaway and that you don't mind posting to Scotland!! Even if I don't win... could you email me, I'd like to ask you some questions about your book?

    Cheers,
    AJ
