A Quilt Show Giveaway

Last March I was a very lucky woman. I got to go to La Veta and film an episode of the The Quilt Show with Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson. Talk about getting to meet your heroes!

As a guest on the show, I was given a membership gift certificate. But, since I had already joined, I don’t need it. So, dear readers, I’m giving it away to one of you.

Just leave a comment on this blog entry and come July 15, I will hold a random drawing. (A six month membership is worth $24.95)

If you haven’t been to The Quilt Show website yet, you really should visit. A free membership allows you to watch one show for free and to browse their site and check out lots of cool goodies. If you join, you can, of course, watch the full season’s worth of episodes (mine will begin airing Nov 23, just saying) and join in on the gorgeous Sue Garman Block of the Month.

I was lucky enough to be there on Hippie Day and spent so much time laughing at the wild get ups that it did a lot to calm my nerves. You’ll have to wait to see it, of course, but I can tell you, Ricky, Alex and the entire production crew pulled out the stops!

Here’s a picture of LaVeta’s main street, early Sunday morning right before my husband and I pulled out to drive back home. Isn’t it a gorgeous location?

And here’s me, standing in front of the LaVeta Inn. (Do I look bowlegged or what? That’s a little scary, actually).

I had a wonderful time. Still, I wonder what exactly will get edited out. How about when I had my Clover mini-iron set to hot, hot, hot (as I do) and it just sat there getting hotter and hotter as Ricky and I filmed the section where I demonstrated how I adapted the Fold and Sew paper-piecing technique to miniature quilts. To demonstrate one of the “tricks” I use, we moved over to show how I regularly clean my little mini iron as I work by having a cloth with some Iron-Off Hot Iron Cleaner set aside. I squeaked out some of the cleaner onto the cloth and put that (by now really, really hot) iron to it and, wow, did it sizzle! You wouldn’t believe the plume of smoke that billowed up. Oops. I’m pretty sure the look on my face (as I waved my hand in the air dissipating the smoke) was not exactly the cool, professional demeanor I was aiming for. Some things are just beyond praying for.

Here’s the studio where we filmed:

Filming with Alex and Ricky is going to be one of my more cherished memories. I’ll have more to say about my time there when the episode airs. Meanwhile, leave a comment, win a membership, and start enjoying some great episodes.

  10. I'd forgotten about that site. When it was new, I so wanted to join, but being on dial up made it impossible. Now I've upgraded to DSL..sky's the limit!

  11. Congratulations on being part of such a great project! I've thought about joining, but couldn't justify even the relatively small cost, so it would be fantastic to win. Thanks for the opportunity!

  14. I love your last post about the pixies! Some days are just like that. Today the gremlins are visiting my house.
I'd love to win - quilting is my "escape" from the black and white world of technical writing and being the wife of a politician (which he wasn't when we got married). I love playing with color and shape, and am stretching my horizons regularly!
